Need some summer beach reading? May I suggest the story of how cannabis went from the Devils Lettuce to the publicly traded commodity of today? All from the perspective of someone who went through it! amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0C6W5…

@CBTmag Again, the patients of the medicinal market are eclipsed and punished by outdated ignorance. In 2026 we are still fighting for safe access. The fight is far from over, despite what many entrepreneurs would have you believe.

California cannabis beverage stakeholders are taking issue with a bill that would wipe out 93% of the product category overnight -- a 10mg THC cap. “Eliminating this category would shut down one of the only functioning growth engines in the legal market." cannabisbusinesstimes.com/us-states/cali…

I wrote this article on determining plant sex in the August 2005 issue of @HIGH_TIMES_Mag over 20 years ago. If your seeds aren’t planted yet for the season, what are you waiting for? “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” - Chinese Proverb

Immigration law doesn’t care that weed is legal in your state. For non-citizens, cannabis can still carry serious consequences, including visa problems, green card complications, denied citizenship, detention or deportation. Vital read by Coco Kesselman on @HIGH_TIMES_Mag

My family was involved in the fashion business of the 70s and 80s. I was first exposed to cannabis as a medicine during the early years of AIDS, as all of our family friends started to pass away. I saw first hand how it works for people, and I will forever fight for that.
Beard Bros@BeardBrosPharms

Before cannabis became an industry, it was a movement built on compassion during the AIDS crisis. West Hollywood just hosted a conference and screening of Join the Club that revisits those roots. Did the industry stay true to the mission? Full recap by Dina Nagib of Grass Goddess Consulting and Chris Carroll of Hoodie Analytics. beardbrospharms.com/articles/love-…

@nuggnotes @CaptainEds For years Galaxy Gallery was the center of LA cannabis owned by Russ and Anthony Cress. Everybody came through their doors at one point or another, and the parties were incredible. They went on to own California Patients Alliance on Melrose. One of the first dispensaries in LA.

cant we all get a bong? the birth of LA head shops 🏬 🧻 @captaineds, a legendary la headshop on van nuys since 1967, began w/ bob & ed hunting rolling papers after a venice score. dee recalls the first “bongs” were vietnam bamboo, improvised rigs, & lamp-part metal pipes, before acrylic & glass took over 🔥mid-90s pasadena, 2 doors from a private elem school, a garage crew heats pyrex by hand, shaping pipes & bongs after hrs. this is how LA glass starts in the early 90s. Quiet improvised rooms, with high demand. 🚨in 1991, u.s. customs in la seizes 3 truckloads worth $3.5m. raids, seizures, & pressure push the scene underground. by the mid-90s, customs & lapd admit paraphernalia isn’t a priority next to cocaine & heroin 🗳️ voters passed prop 215 in nov 1996. w/in weeks, the la times notes the shift. headshops resurface. mfg scales. open pipe sales would’ve been unthinkable 5 yrs earlier 📺2000 b.c. on melrose runs cable ads across west la, reaching ~450k homes. 1 spot riffs on rodney king: “can’t we all get a bong?” owner craig x. rubens says tv drives 60%+ of customers & grosses reach ~$600k/yr 🏜️melrose ave becomes the spine. inside 2000 b.c., water pipes sit in “bong canyon.” nearby, vajar displays 20 bongs in its window. signs read “for tobacco use only,” w/ “water pipe” language & banned words like “bong” triggering no sale 🤡 your 1st bong? 1988–90s, @graffixoriginal is a pioneer. wider/taller acrylic builds, metal pullstems, branding, modular parts, a jester logo. It became a ask-for-by-name retail before heady glass takes over 🧃1996, galaxy opened as a bougie melrose headshop, art gallery, & juice bar. owner Russ Ceres, claimed ~1k pipes in stock & hosted live glass demos from an oakland professional 🧱back then waterworx operated from a northridge warehouse, tracking wholesale accounts nationwide. in pasadena, darkside recycling owner mark hill, claimed 300 wholesale customers & planned a new shop featuring a $170 double-chamber “tupac.” ⚖️lapd lt. bernie larralde called it supply & demand as police seized nearly 30k lbs in the 1st half of 1996 alone. headshops survive on semantics, signage, & selective language. by decade end, retail glass culture isn’t hidden anymore - @nuggnotes 🪴

the rise, fall & return of heady glass 🏕️ in the 1980s, @BobSnodgrass shaped the 1st color-changing pipes while following the grateful dead. torchwork became counterculture, glass as rebellion, art as function. his eugene crew carried that craft into american folklore. 🪞 by the 1990s, artists like jerome baker & @JasonLeeGlass1 turned borosilicate into sculpture. each piece had a sig, a story & a buyer. head shops treated glass like street-level fine art, functional, discreet & personal. ⚖️ 2003 shattered it—raids hit artists & distributors. bongs became felonies. @tommychong’s arrest signaled the crackdown, driving glassblowers underground. 🌊as u.s. makers regrouped, chinese factories flooded shelves w/ cheap pipes. quality dropped, margins collapsed & “handmade” lost weight. artistry gave way to survival. 💨2010, bho dabs reignited the flame—skillets→quartz, rigs replaced spoons. function ruled as hamm, quave & mothership refined recyclers, diffusion & airflow; dabs made glass perform. 📸ig drops replaced shows; artists built direct followings. fab eggs & toro macros sparked bidding wars. hashtags stood in for galleries. drops vanished in seconds. glass went global & algorithmic. 💰as legalization spread, high-end rigs became trophies. by the mid-2010s, @mothershipglass & quave work hit 5-figure tags. some rare collabs even broke 6 (like the fab egg & sagan “moon marble”). collectors treated function like investment, chasing provenance over price. 📉by late 2010s, copycats, imports & vape tech (@pax , @puffco) thinned demand. pens & e-rigs pulled casuals; shops pivoted to carts & pods. prices fell from mid-2010s highs. today’s ceiling hovers around $10–13k, while 6-fig grails are rare & rely on provenance. 🏺museums & galleries now back functional flamework; joint venture & residencies frame borosilicate as contemporary craft, where form meets function. 💸 cash flow squeeze: trappers & once affluent collectors now funnel dollars into permits, taxes & compliance. legalization exposed the brutal production margin—mids flooded in, wholesale collapsed. old-money glass spenders are now budgeting overhead, shrinking mid-tier demand while grails hang on. 🔁 smaller scene today, but w/ a sharper edge. imports & vapes thinned mid-tier; top stays steady via drops, provenance & private sales. the rise of hash rosin fuels legacy chase; new fans treat torchwork as heritage. the hype cooled but the heat stayed.    - @nuggnotes🪴

Hosting a memorial for Wayne Justmann. He was one of Denis Peron's core team members on the fight to legalize medical cannabis in California via Prop 215 and a dispensary owner in SF when that was real activism that could get you serious prison time. Wayne was a great dude.

@BeardBrosPharms Reminds me of back in 2006 when there was an onsite consumption lounge in Malibu. CHP would sit across the street and wait for people to leave, then pull them over right away. Once that happened, the regulars would all leave before the police could regroup.

Christmas behind bars isn’t quiet or peaceful. It’s tense, loud, and unforgiving. Dead Men Don’t Cry by Edwin Rubis shows what the holidays really look like inside a max-security prison. Cannabis to Schedule III sounds like a win. Until you read the fine print. 280E relief is real. Federal control is too. Pharma is watching. Legalization this is not. So what did this executive order actually unlock and what doors might it close next? Read the breakdown. Then answer this. Is Schedule III progress, or just a different kind of fight? beardbrospharms.com/articles/how-t…
