@EmThePen Maybe instead of starting from the first chapter, re-write one of your emotional chapters in first person and see how that feels to you. If it works, you know your answer!

Are you really writing a book if you don’t freak out towards the end and start questioning whether you chose the right tense?

@author_laurenk that is the exact situation I'm in rn! My gut says it'll be worth it to change it... but past tense is definitely my comfort zone 🤞

@EmThePen I think it's the only way to see what speaks to you :) I wanted mine in present tense because I have a few really emotional scenes that I wanted the reader to feel in real time. Was it the right choice? Who knows! but I like it :P

@Wisteraverse @EmThePen Same! And if we're being honest, I have caught myself unintentionally changing the tense in a sentence or two before within my WIP. I think one of the characters is trying to become sentient. 😂

@EmThePen Yep! I got to the end and then decided I wanted to change it, so I went back through and changed it alllll. It took a while, but I'm happy with how it ended up :)

Never used to be a multiple WIP person. Now I’m someone who has one doc with a happy fun romcom WIP and one doc with a lit fic WIP inspired by Heart The Lover which I will one day comp to Free Now by Gracie Abrams, heavy emphasis on the “I was brave when I kissed you in London”🥹

Now that I’m unemployed, I spend my entire day toggling between tabs—queries, job applications, and my WIP 🫠
