Always told myself and others that I “write love stories” but having a serious identity crisis with my transition into litfic. Is it still a love story if love is involved but it emotionally destroys my characters in the first 30k words 😂

Never used to be a multiple WIP person. Now I’m someone who has one doc with a happy fun romcom WIP and one doc with a lit fic WIP inspired by Heart The Lover which I will one day comp to Free Now by Gracie Abrams, heavy emphasis on the “I was brave when I kissed you in London”🥹

Today I received a rejection very similar to another recent one where the agent said they enjoyed it, sat with it, and ultimately passed because of representing a similar second chance romance already. Dang. It really feels like I’m *this* close.

Two full rejections in the past month that said very encouraging/complimentary things and that they both think another agent is going to offer. One even refused to give me critical feedback bc she thinks another agent might love what didn’t resonate with her and the other agent, while providing feedback, said he thinks another agent will “fall in love and snap it up.” Honestly, as disappointing as it is that these weren’t “let’s set up a call” emails, the feedback is invaluable and I’m just really happy that two more super cool agents/people read my *whole* book. That’s all I want at the end of the day—for people to read the story. Plus one said she really enjoyed going along with the MCs on their adventure and she loved the detailed world-building and the other that it was a “really tightly plotted commercial romp” so it seems like they had fun along the way and that’s just so heartening to know 🥰🫶🏽🙏🏽 #amquerying #WritingCommunity #litagents

Woke up to a full request (!) from an agent I queried in a very early batch who apologized for being so late and said she’d love to read it if it’s still available. Please tell me why there’s a part of me that feels defeated to send it because it *IS* still available

I fear I may have been ghosted on a full from an agent who requested it so enthusiastically after querying her with 50 pages at the beginning of the year. Bit the bullet and sent a nudge only to receive an auto-reply that she's now on mat leave. The highs and lows🤷‍♀️

@vickyweberbooks The date/time of a response isn’t something I think twice about. I’m appreciative of all query replies no matter when they come in

I work 65-75 hours per week with 2 toddlers at home and I’m STILL falling behind with work tasks. I don’t have the luxury or cutting out weekends or calculating time zones & I thought most authors would prefer a response rather than silence. Am I wrong?
