Non-vasodilating beta-blockers (atenolol, metoprolol, and propranolol) are associated with a worsening of glycemic and lipidic control. In contrast, vasodilating beta-blockers (carvedilol, labetalol, and nebivolol) reduce peripheral vascular resistance but have little or no effect on cardiac output and are preferred in type 2 diabetes.

Drugmaker Eli Lilly will cap the cost of insulin at $35 a month. The change takes effect immediately for people on private insurance — and the uninsured. The cap puts them in line with a provision in the Inflation Reduction Act, which capped the cost for certain seniors.

I'm guessing most people don't realize their physicians go home after work or post-call and have trouble sleeping. Not asking for sympathy, just saying, we toss and turn and ruminate about every decision we make at work. We really care about you. That's all.

Just a reminder that patients on ventilators can often hear us. Talk to them how you would if they were awake. Introduce yourself. Be kind. Explain what’s happening (before you examine them or do a procedure). They deserve this. #meded

Social Determinants of Health are being tracked by CMS (no financial impact currently but likely coming soon). ANYONE can capture them (CM, SW, etc) but if you see SDoH impacting the patient / your care, document it. Ex: homelessness, food insecurity, financial limitations, etc
