@abuga_makori Here is Raila Odinga supporting zoning. In a pre-election coalition, zoning is an arrangement that makes a lot of sense.

During the negotiations with my beloved ODM, President William Ruto should NOT allow politics of zoning. They are counterproductive and dictatorial. They will cause voter apathy. Dr. Oburu Oginga should negotiate for development and positions. Period.

It's funny how when it comes to the United Opposition for instance, zoning is taken as a given and nobody even questions it. If Gachagua backs Kalonzo for the presidency, nobody expects Wiper to field candidates in Mt. Kenya or DCP to field candidates in Ukambani. It only becomes an issue when it's mentioned by ODM. Zoning has been happening in previous elections and will happen in 2027, on both sides of the political divide.

UDA SG says they won’t block anyone from vying in their strongholds, and expect the same from ODM. So why the panic among some? Isn’t this what democracy looks like? Let UDA field in Homa Bay. Let ODM field in Bomet. Let DCP field in Emurua. If your support is real, why fear competition? Or are some “strongholds” controlled, not earned? Homa Bay is not private property. Bomet is not a kingdom. Zoning politics is cowardice dressed as strategy. Let the people decide.

Hassan Omar, like most politicians, is speaking from an entirely selfish position. He is coveting the Mombasa gubernatorial seat currently held by ODM, and if zoning is done as proposed by ODM, then it means UDA will not field a candidate for this seat. Nobody expects Hassan Omar to support this sort of arrangement.

Hassan Omar is a political novice who served a single term as Senator and was quickly sacked by @TheWiperParty for chaotic leadership. He is an agent of division and confusion whose continuing as Secretary General of @UDAKenya will destabilize the Party’s relationship with @TheODMparty and risk the landslide win by the ODM-UDA coalition in 2027. @UDAKenya must shut him up or remove him from that sensitive position of Secretary General, soonest.

You are obviously itching to contest on a UDA ticket, hoping for campaign facilitation. Very selfish. Should ODM form a pre-election partnership with UDA, it will not make sense for the two parties to field candidates against each other. That will still leave over 100 other political parties on whose tickets you can contest whichever seat you are eyeing. But coalition partners cannot be fielding candidates against each other.

GROUND TRUTH! If ODM is genuinely committed to securing a significant number of MPs in the 2027 elections, they must negotiate for zoning in regions where they face strong competition, such as Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, and Western Kenya. In these areas, the presence of both UDA and ODM candidates could result in a loss to the united opposition. In contrast, in Luoland, ODM faces no real competition. To enhance voter turnout and engagement, ODM should encourage internal competition. Without this, the current zoning strategy appears to be a self-serving attempt to ensure weak incumbent ODM leaders are re-elected with minimal opposition or to ensure the easy election of loyal relatives and allies of ODM leaders. For those willing to buy ODM certificates, the price would be high since there would be no meaningful competition. Moreover, it is evident that ODM Chairperson Gladys Wanga’s interest extends beyond just zoning for elected officials. She is also demanding zoning for government appointments. This was made clear when she joined the broad-based government and pushed for the removal of top leaders from Homa Bay who were serving in government—a campaign she continues to champion. For over 30 years, zoning has been practiced in Luoland for both elective and appointive positions. Once elections are concluded and ODM, or any dominant party in the region, loses, they typically rejoin the government. The precondition for rejoining is the dismissal of Luos who supported the government before the realignment. This practice represents one of the most egregious forms of apartheid ever experienced in Africa, perpetuated by people of the same race as their victims. I have personally been a victim of this systemic injustice since 2005. However, I must remind Gladys Wanga that her zeal for zoning is nothing more than a vendetta against her perceived enemies, whether real, imagined, or delusional. As for me, I have lost everything in this political game, and there is nothing left for me to lose. I will not be swayed by anyone promoting this regressive form of discrimination, especially in a region where young people sacrificed their lives for freedom, liberty, and democracy—at a time when she hadn’t even learned how to clear her own nose. This strategy is a clear violation of Article 27 of the Constitution of Kenya, and any individual advocating for it should be impeached from public office. Meanwhile, I still cannot understand how Gladys Wanga manages to manipulate full-grown men and women into always doing her bidding. The resolutions read out to the media by the ODM Central Management Committee were largely a repetition of Gladys Wanga’s speech delivered two days earlier at the Sero Vocational Training Centre in Homa Bay.
