The utterances attributed to Hon. John Kaguchia on the profiling of voters are reckless, inciteful, and regrettable. Such profiling has previously been applied in different contexts, with devastating consequences. No person should be punished for their political opinion. Expressing one's choice is the very essence of democracy. Decisions must be free of coercion or any form of intimidation. What may be a minority view in one area may be the majority in another. All voices matter. It is yet another indication of how short a memory we possess. May this be the last lesson that such recklessness will not be tolerated.

@rigathi I would have been surprised had you found anything wrong with what MP John Kaguchia said. That kind of rhetoric is exactly what your campaign has been based on. You are just being true to your character here.

The use of the criminal justice system to manage politics is synonymous with outgoing, cowardly regimes. The selective application of the law is counterproductive; I thought this lost regime should be reminded. The 4th Administration was notorious for using the criminal justice system to suppress dissent and force people to support an unpopular candidate. It didn't work. In fact, the more they did it, the more people of Kenya became hardened, and their resolve grew stronger. Mr. William Ruto, then the Deputy President, wondered aloud how foolish the system was and he seemed to enjoy every arrest; his harassed foot soldiers became overnight celebrities and darlings of the people. This greatly strengthened his presidential bid the more. As President, he is doing exactly what he said at the time was foolish. Has it become more wise? I am genuinely concerned about what happens to leaders,their thinking and reasoning, once they occupy State House. This requires some serious interrogation. Even if it is said that Mr. William Ruto was pretending, I am convinced that there is something functionally and fundamentally questionable. The overnight harassment and early morning arrest of Hon. John Kaguchia today only strengthen the resolve of our supporters and elevate his standing within our leadership hierarchy. Our lawyers are doing everything possible to secure his release on bond pending his arraignment tomorrow. Aluta continua!

What if every region also decided to hunt down anyone who does not vote for their preferred candidate and even pull them from under their beds as advocated by MP John Kaguchia? Would we have a country or an election? These Mt. Kenya folks must stop defending the indefensible. Those remarks by Kaguchia were inflammatory and criminal. He belongs in jail. No doubt about that.

This statement is regrettable. We know you are dying for DCP's endorsement without which your presidential bid is dead in the water. But to fail to condemn the inflammatory and criminal remarks by John Kaguchia and instead condemning his rightful arrest exposes you as a man who will tolerate and excuse great evil if it serves your interests. I strongly condemn the arbitrary arrest of Mukurweini MP, Hon. John Kaguchia, over his public remarks. Let me be clear: we do not support incitement, from anyone. Every leader has a duty to protect peace and to respect the rule of law. The Constitution guarantees every Kenyan freedom of expression. The law must be applied fairly, not selectively. Yet Mr. Ruto's regime said "shoot and kill" against our own children. No action followed. The UDA Secretary General and a sitting Cabinet Secretary hurled tribal insults, one going so far as to call an entire community "hyenas." Again, no action. Why the double standard? Justice in Kenya cannot depend on whether you are pro-government or in the opposition. If incitement is the standard, apply it to everyone; Mukurweini MP or Cabinet Secretary, it does not matter. Selective justice is not justice. It has no place in our democracy.
