@ForestedDepth The café was good. Broadly similar to what you'd get in New Mexico. I didn't have the sopapilla with chili but it looked good and basically what you'd get at a Navajo or Hopi cafe in the Southwest.
English

@DefenderOfBasic Okay. Can we DM about it? I would prefer that
English

fuck those guys though (A egregore). My life is so much better once I understood how the game works and became a live player. (even though it's more stressful)
Defender@DefenderOfBasic
@47fucb4r8c69323 they do become dangerous. Most live players don't really want more live players in the game, it makes it more complicated
English

@DefenderOfBasic I don't think that they'll actually be annexed, but it does make me go "oh wait, why has America been treating the Saudi-American relationship like it's something we need to negotiate? These guys won't even fire the guns we sold them". But I am not the US government 2/2
English

@DefenderOfBasic Well, ironically, this is a misunderstanding of America -- the number one thing that would result in any realignment of US-gulf relationships is knowing that gulf countries are so cowardly that they won't even freeze Iran's accounts while being missile struck by Iran. 1/2
English

@archon psyop anime (the AI anime studio in question) is pro-america
Italiano

@royllovians But that is exactly correct?
Classical Latin (which is what we think of as "Latin") is a semi-constructed mostly-literary language based on Vulgar Latin.
Vulgar Latin is the ancestor of Romance languages. Classical Latin isn't.
Did you not know?
English

In light of Owen Cyclops' rediscovery of Indo-European: Language evolution is apparently just not that intuitive.
E.g. Dante saw that the Romance languages were related... But he thought that *Latin* was an artificial construct that came from *Romance*.

Roy@royllovians
Dante understood that the Romance languages must have gradually evolved from a common ancestor, and that their systematic similarities bore witness to this, but he thought Latin ("gramatica") was an artificial, idealized language deliberately fashioned out of vernacular Romance.
English

@DefenderOfBasic i'll fire people for you on a contract basis
English

@Howard_RyanGreg the technology gap is really not as significant as you'd think. Plate is superior armor, but not unbeatably so. And the gap in training, discipline, tactics, massively favors to the legionaries, not the knights.
English

Assuming these are Romans at the empire's peak, they'd be facing a technology gap of about 1100 years. Even if they're late Romans with more steel in their kit, they'd still need to overcome a 3-400 year gap. This is like asserting that Gustavus Adolphus could take on a SEAL team
Sandy Petersen 🪔@SandyofCthulhu
15 mounted knights in plate could probably be beaten by 15 veteran legionnaries.
English

@archon @DeanWilliamLvl6 it feels like that has even gotten killed by the last several waves of algorithm and moderation changes. The feed is just ai and unannounced advertising now
English

@ForestedDepth @DeanWilliamLvl6 Yah. I actually try to avoid being overtly political on X. I have a substack where I have long-form essays for those who want to know what I think on serious matters. This is where I come to talk about stuff I love like RPGs, AI, media/entertainment, etc.
English

@RogueWPA @DanielMOrnelas if anything, i'd say it argues too much now
English

@RogueWPA @DanielMOrnelas yeah, that's... about where I've got it. Wasn't hard.
English

@RogueWPA @DanielMOrnelas you know you can make it more argumentative in the settings, right?
English

@DanielMOrnelas I began to worry that ChatGPT would just say yes to all my suggested ingredients for a recipe and so I gave it a deliberately bad suggestion (adding coffee to salsa verde) and was relieved that it told me not to.
English

@archon @DeanWilliamLvl6 That's fair, I'll refollow you. Maybe skim less, X is an odd place now, and you can easily end up advancing views you find repugnant.
Obviously D&D has a weird relationship because every generation gets a new edition BUT kids and adults play the same game.
English

@ForestedDepth @DeanWilliamLvl6 OK, I just re-read it and see it. That's what I get for skimming when I read. For what it's worth, I don't endorse that part of the argument. The part I thought was interesting was the part relating to childhood consumption patterns.
English

@DeanWilliamLvl6 @archon yeah. And the weirdest part is that the stuff about Jews had... fuck all to do with the rest of the argument. I think he was just using "Judaization" to mean "bad".
I'm unfollowing you for this, Alexander. I know you won't care, but I do.
English

@archon Was half nodding along until he made it about Jews. Now I hope he loses one of every pair of socks he owns.
English

@SandyofCthulhu "Cthulhu" was largely unknown before ttrpgs.
*you* are in many ways a bigger influence on the modern idea of the mythos than Lovecraft was
All the evidence suggests that he was known only to ttrpg nerds until *you* forced the world to give a shit about your favorite author
English

@SandyofCthulhu Sandy, HP Lovecraft was made famous first via the explosion of the TTRPG scene and then later *by you*
Look! I have proof! He is virtually unknown for decades after his death, and then every new rise comes the same year as a ttrpg publication!

English

Lovecraft's tale "The Call of Cthulhu" is about two things. First, it's a mystery which must be delved. Second, it's about reading - about tales that pull you in, and force you to learn the secrets of Hell. You, the reader are doomed to repeat "The Call of Cthulhu" to others in turn.
The story opens with a warning, "We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far."
It was the first story that Lovecraft wrote after returning from New York, and it triggered his best and most memorable tales - he would not have been remembered for the stories he wrote before that time.
