Yesterday the Assistant Chief Deputy Attorney for the Pierce County Prosecutor's Office had a meeting with me that she just put on my calendar like she is my boss. She never emailed me or my assistant to ask for a meeting. It was very disrespectful since she isn't even in the top three chain of command. But, I met with her none the less. I was curious why she wanted to speak with me. She brought two other attorneys with her. I believe that she was trying to intimidate me.
She wanted to let me know that I no longer am allowed to have an attorney with me when I have a Loudermill hearing. This is a hearing with an accused employee before punishment is imposed. It's part of due process.
I explained to her my experience working at a large agency. The Chief of Police ALWAYS had an attorney (legal advisor) present when she/he imposed discipline.
The legal advisor (attorney) would make sure that the Chief did not violate the US Constitution, the Washington State Constitution, labor laws, union contracts, and policies and procedures.
My argument fell on deaf ears. She looked at me with contempt. The look was, "how dare he question me." She was trying to hide it, but I have been a cop for a long time. I know non-verbal communication and pre-attack indicators.
This is the latest example of why I need to have my own legal advisor. This person is either incompetent or trying to sabotage me or both.
