@Siliconish @kslack1313 I’ll tell you what pissed me off the most. It was high altitude nuclear testing by JFK up until 1963. What right did he have to irradiate British farmland and the milk my mother put on my breakfast cereal? I don’t enjoy being poisoned. Presidents have had much to answer for.

@GShadrake @kslack1313 No President prior to the 20th Century, except MAYBE McKinley, EVER took the position that the division of power between Congress and the President allowed the President to initiate any hostilities without Congress's authorization. Truman made this change, not centuries.

You know, in James Madison’s era, you don’t have the destructive capacity of bombs and nuclear weapons that we have today. In those days, the enemy arrives on a ship after traveling for 2 months to be confronted with every single citizen being armed on far lesser known terrain and no possibility of widespread destruction. My point being that the War Powers Act makes a lot of sense when timing matters to the infinite degree today. As I’ve read about it, people were literally holding their breaths during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Trump attacked with our key ally and then was required to report the Senate, which he did. Then the Senate consented to his continued actions, which they should if there is any perceived threat whatsoever. The only time the Senate would pull back would be if there truly was no threat. So, anybody with a brain would be going, “There’s probably some validity to his actions.” Citizens today don’t have the ability to protect themselves from total obliteration. And we have properly modified the leash on the executive from Madison’s era to reflect the necessary changes. There’s nobody who is more supported of separation of powers than be, but this account so completely lost on the intent, logic and application in this particular situation. Moreover, there is literally no president who reports to and answers more questions to the press than Trump. Nobody. He is constantly talking to the public about the situation, more than he probably should.

@Siliconish @kslack1313 Reagan’s Justice Department argued that the WPR places unconstitutional limits on the Administration. The division of authority between Congress and POTUS has been a matter of debate for centuries. Don’t assume you know the answer.

@GShadrake @kslack1313 The only way this ever stops is if YOU demand it. Every "you" out there, must demand the Constitution be obeyed, that Presidents be held to account and not be allowed to continue to violate it.

@Siliconish @kslack1313 The relevancy of the WPR is the 60 day clock. It places a limit on Trump. This is an unmitigated disaster. Trump cannot win it. He has to get lucky & have Iran choose to lose it - but that’s highly unlikely. The WPR may at least force an end to it.

@GShadrake @kslack1313 Then you should be screaming off the rooftops that this is not okay, but instead you appear to be saying that it happens so much that there's something wrong with me calling Trump out for it, something wrong with me saying the WPR doesn't authorize any of it and it's all illegal.

@Siliconish @kslack1313 I’m pointing out, this is the way things are. There’s no point in pulling your hair out over a status quo WPR established between the WH & Congress. Keep your eye on the ball - actually 2. Ukraine still has the potential to go nuclear. Iran War can wreck the global economy.

@GShadrake @kslack1313 Seriously: are you giving examples of the violations of which I speak because you agree these are violations? Or are you trying to say, as I actually expect you are, that all these violations demonstrate that the current one is just fine, legally and/or constitutionally?

@Siliconish @kslack1313 I’m deeply troubled by the direction of US foreign policy since Clinton began NATO expansion. A neocon wet-dream of extending the unipolar moment to a 1000 yr kinder, gentler Reich, with the US as the world’s policeman, judge, jury, & executioner took control at State by 1996.

@GShadrake @kslack1313 Sorry, I didn't mean to use such crude language against people providing constitutional cover for the murder of hundreds-to-millions of people without the authorization of Congress. Or are you claiming your reply here was agreement with me? If so, then I actually do appologize.

@Siliconish @kslack1313 Presidents have issued 132 48-hr reports under the WPR, so have made an effort to abide by it but Clinton in Yugoslavia & Obama in Libya were accused (rightfully I’d say) of not getting Congressional approval to continue past the 60 day mark, though Clinton was out by 90.

@GShadrake @kslack1313 No. You're an ignorant cuck. Presidents do NOT use the War Powers Act. They fucking ignore it. Because it says the same thing the Constitution says, you idiot: the President can't start wars. But you ARE happy with unconstitutional wars. You want a SCOTUS ruling? Prizes Cases:

@ThomasSowell Carney can’t stabilize the climate if by stabilize he means freeze it into a steady state (which is what he means). The climate is a metastable system on timespans of thousands of years. It still is and nothing Carney does will change that. The climate will continue to fluctuate.

@Siliconish @kslack1313 Congress passed the War Powers Act. Presidents use it. Maybe a case on the matter should head up to SCOTUS for a ruling? I don’t know why you would assume I’m happy with various presidents destroying countries for obscure reasons or the lesser matter of constitutionality.

@GShadrake @kslack1313 Right, those were also unconstitutional wars. What's your point? If it's that many Presidents violate the Constitution, then I agree. But while you're a cuck who is perfectly fine with your Constitution getting fucked by one President after another, the question here is the WPR.

@RedHConservatar @kslack1313 JFK did not create the Cuban Missile Crisis. Khrushchev got pissed off about US nuclear missiles in Turkey, a short flight from his Black Sea retreat. He decided to return the favor with missiles in Cuba. The threat of NATO in Ukraine is a similar crisis turned hot.

@kslack1313 I don't see how your explanation of the urgency of warfare today makes a difference. The idea is the U.S. cannot attack another country without Congress approval. President may DEFEND the land. *shrug* Plus JFK created the crisis.

@Siliconish @kslack1313 We’ve had Bush I attack Panama, Clinton attack Serbia, & Obama attack Libya & Syria. I don’t remember any of those countries declaring war on the US or POTUS receiving specific authorization from Congress before acting.

@kslack1313 Stop it. The War Powers Act says the President has no authority to initiate hostilities or introduce troops into situations where hostilities are indicated, unless due to a declaration of war, specific authorization from Congress, or due to an attack on the US. Not even for 48hrs
