Ben Carson was raised by a poor single mother, and he turned into a top brain surgeon. Regardless of his politics everyone should be celebrating that to show what's possible in America with hard work.

A friend of mine asked me since I used to be a Democrat could I ever see myself returning to the left. I said how often did a Cuban leave Miami and swim back to Castro's Cuba?

I was walking with my very liberal cousin on an extremely cold day. I said, I thought you were a Democrat? He said you know I am. I'm only asking because you have your hands in your own pockets for a change.

@miles_commodore I think the better term is grit. Grit to handle failure and persist. The highly talented fragile ego that shatters at adversity is the one to pass on for sure. Give me the guy or gal who doesn't quit, who gets back up.

Give me someone with work ethic over talent any day.

If I see a homeless person, I will only give them food or water. Never money.

Am I the only one who uses the home phone to catch all the calls I don't want? My cell phone is for important people.

I get called an Uncle Tom all the time by other black people because of my support for the President. It would be easier to just be a Democrat like everyone else in my family, but I know too much now to ever go back there. Conservatism is the only way for me.

I only have a public high school diploma. I'd like to think I have an unofficial Masters in common sense.

I have never denied that.
