“Although they are hardly the most dazzling piece of edtech, timers are an indispensable tool in the teacher tool kit,” @HenrySeton says. 🧰⏲️ If you want to better manage your time and make more confident teaching decisions, check out his rave review: edut.to/4cXlfM6

Is it just me or do teachers not talk enough about their fears and how these fears impact their classroom culture? Would love to hear folks' thoughts!

An early working title for this new piece was "How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love My Classroom Timer." Would love to hear folks' thoughts on it. So grateful to publish with @edutopia again! 🤓⏲️🤣 edutopia.org/article/embrac…

So excited to publish with @ASCD once again! Would love people's thoughts on this piece about the tensions between fear & love in the classroom. Targeted it towards new teachers but have a hunch more experienced educators might be interested in it as well!

@natechinen Random jazz history question: Are there examples of jazz albums whose cover art was the primary reason the album became successful? Or are the classic examples of jazz cover art we think of as iconic just that way because of how popular the music was?

@Kath_Forrester Amazing. So lovely to hear! I continue to use moves like this--especially in quarter 1--although I have been trying some new ones just to keep growing my own practice. Right now my students are *loving* "Good News" as a weekly ritual which I learned about from @MattRKay.

It is so humbling trying to have an authoritative teacher presence to start the year when your voice is cracking every other sentence due to the respiratory bug that is going around right now 🙃🪲

"Mr. Seton, were you there when Quakers were hung on Boston Common?" "No, it was in the 1600s!" "Weren't you alive then?" 😂🙃💀🤣 They're already ganging up on me. I'm toast. :)

Class ends. Students are leaving the classroom. I overhear this from one student chatting to another student: "I've got on my taco pockets. I can put tacos and burritos in them." I need to know more. How/Where can I purchase these taco pockets? Do they come with tacos?

OMG. Been teaching many years but had a first today: Student paused in the middle of note-taking to put in his *teeth whiteners*!!! Told me later he had something important tonight (date? :) so wanted to be ready. Have other people seen this!?🤣🦷😂 #dead

@HoppeEllie @scomorrison Very hip to hear this. I think both of your settings you mention could totally work. And @HoppeEllie I think you are right on about consistent usage being key. I don't use Socratics all year but some regularity is helpful in terms of helping students get good at the format.

@HenrySeton My teacher @scomorrison selected it as a class reading for our educational assessment class at Elon University. As future secondary and middle grades educators we have been discussing nontraditional grading and assessment methods. #ElonEd

How could socratic seminars or remixed socratics inspired by @HenrySeton work in a biology class? It seems like a great idea for humanities but I'm not sure how it would translate to STEM classes. #ElonEd

@HoppeEllie I bet there are more creative ways to do it though. E.g, give them a bunch of biological "artifacts" for them to puzzle through in groups and then you ask them to do a deeper analysis of one of the more significant ones as a ticket to leave?

@HoppeEllie So... I think my remixed Socratic method works most elegantly in English as I discuss in the article, but I think it can work in any class. E.g., you could assign a handful of word problems that they have to work through in groups and then you pick one for the exit ticket.
