@EpiEllie Looooove fabric posters! They also make great toddler capes upon one’s return.

Academia hot tip: if you’re preparing to go to a conference and have a poster to present, fabric posters can be easily folded into your bag and are less likely to get forgotten and left on the plane! Spoonflower does great fabric posters. Instructions👇🏼 spoonflower.com/presentation-p…

OK Twin Cities Twitter: where are the best post-COVID "walk-up windows" in the Twin Cities? i.e. places that installed windows in the wall to serve people on the sidewalk?

If you knew what you knew now about high quality masking before covid would you have masked during cold and flu season pre covid? For me the answer is yes. I have not had 1 cold since the pandemic started and post Feb 2020 covid infection.

Was reminded recently that I havent done an updated mask explainer thread about the whats & wheres & hows of face masks in quite awhile, and it’s true that some of the situations that inform our decisions have changed. So, what real questions about face masks do you have?

@EpiEllie In cold climates (preparing for a MN winter), if you mask outdoors and the come indoors, should you change your mask? There can sometimes be a lot of condensation and my understanding is N95-type materials don’t work if wet…?

@queer_spice My first recommendation would be to incorporate an N95 mask into your costume and always stay in character...

Hi friends, while you’re having fun at Halloween parties, I’m here to be Public Health Friend and recommend you get a PCR 3-5 days after the various parties and things ♥️ Your costumes are all excellent and being safe is also excellent!

@annettebmorin My understanding is Pfizer is BA.5 and Moderna is BA.1 And then both are combined with the Wuhan strain. If that's wrong someone will be in here to correct it in short order as is the way with the internet.

Brutal. This was a study of five different RNA vaccines. They work but not for long. Positive takeaway? The Pfizer bivalent is likely going to offer more protection. If you have to get one, get that one.
Rajeev Jayadevan@RajeevJayadevan

Comments: The effect of vaccination in preventing infection is short-lived. This study shows that ANY additional vaccine dose reduces viral load in the nose as well as the lungs, if exposed to BA.5. Bivalent boosters were more effective at reducing BA.5 load in lungs. 15/

@DonEford @AshishKJha46 Thank you!!! I just was just reading this study and made the same all caps comment in my notes: NOT LONG COVID! Extended acute symptoms is a perfect term for what they DID look at.

@AshishKJha46 Whenever a study says that any prophylactic reduces the risk of Long COVID... just stop what you are doing and go to where they define the symptoms. This is not how long COVID is defined by the patients who created the term. Follow the WHO guidelines to be accurate.

In a study of Italian healthcare workers, About 30% of folks had at least 1 residual symptom a month after getting COVID However odds of Long COVID was 84% lower for those vaccinated More evidence that vaccines dramatically reduce risk of Long COVID jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/…

People often assume that capitalism is defined by "markets and trade". But markets and trade existed for thousands of years before capitalism. Capitalism is only 500 years old. So what is distinctive about this economic system? Three things (well, more, but three for now):

@EthanSommer @DanVerBout @dhmontgomery @mnhealth One concern about wastewater is comparability of levels across variants. If some variants have higher viral load per person, then comparing today’s levels to historic levels (say when delta was dominant) may give a false sense of security.

As I noted yesterday, today @mnhealth has stopped reporting data on testing volume (and thus, on positivity rate). This follows a federal decision to stop requiring labs to report all their negative cases, which made testing data nearly useless. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have a friend in South Minneapolis who is recovering from an injury. She's been avoiding stuff like DoorDash because of concerns about fairness to employees/restaurants, but she really needs to be able to get some food deliveries. What service(s) would my Mpls peeps recommend?

Has anyone created a high-risk & kid-friendly town or commune yet? I would pick up and move across the country for it. I DREAM about this place—a true safe-haven, sustainable, & separated from society.

My OpEd today Yes, everyone needs to wear high-quality #masks in #schools, but that’s not the only urgent action necessary to keep kids safe -- we desperately need to focus on air quality by adding #HEPA filters & by addressing the risks at lunch time,🧵👇 denverpost.com/2021/08/19/sch…

New video out for parents wondering about my Kid's Mask Summary Spreadsheet. It's less than 20 minutes and should hit all the key points, and help answer those common questions. youtu.be/A88AGnN-nwI
