If we avoid a major covid wave this winter it would be a historic change in Covid. Fingers crossed long time till we see what happens. Even if it changes KEEP MASKING!

While I do not think anyone can say for sure what will happen this winter I am paying attention to the rest of the world to maybe get clues. Several countries are having waves right now after they had long lulls and historic lows. Something to keep an eye on but NOT panic over.

I've never actually had the balls / patience to ask someone why they think the Covid pandemic is NBD - ie based on what evidence they think that. Have you?

HRRR Smoke model has things improved big time as we get to Tuesday. That's also when the next round of severe weather comes for the Ohio valley in to parts of the east Tuesday into Wednesday. More on that in another post later today.

Still some bad air qualities across the great lakes through to the Mid Atlantic today. While not as bad you should continue to mask if you have to go outside today. If near lake Michigan consider limiting all time outside as your air is still pretty bad.

I knew it still felt like 2020 Philly trash and recycling just came to our dead end and put it all in the same truck just like they did in the early days of Covid. I get it though they are backed up from having off for the smoke.

🚨📢NEW FROM @US_FDA TONIGHT: A positive cyclospora sample has been obtained from a Taylor Farms iceberg lettuce product that is NOT part of the current recall. “A sample of shredded iceberg lettuce supplied by Taylor Farms de Mexico has tested positive for Cyclospora. This sample was collected during targeted import surveillance as a result of this outbreak investigation. Taylor Farms has confirmed that this positive product is not part of their current recall. They are currently working to identify whether any part of this implicated lot is available in commerce or in consumers homes. The positive lot is currently detained and more information will be provided as it becomes available.” As a reminder, the current recall was already designed and thought to be overly expansive as a precaution, and includes all iceberg lettuce from central Mexico, even though the original FDA traceback only implicated a single, independent farm which produces 5-pound bags of lettuce for the food service industry. So, from my understanding, I guess this new detection comes from outside of “central Mexico”.

The full recall of Taylor Farms iceberg lettuce from central Mexico has been published, which includes product distributed June 29th thru July 16th in AL, AR, CT, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, MI, MO, MS, NC, NH, NJ, OH, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, and WI. Remember that not all of these products are necessarily believed to be impacted, but are part of the precautionary recall of all iceberg lettuce from the region. fda.gov/safety/recalls…

Interviewed in this piece on #Covid19 levels rising again in the Bay Area. I treat a few hundred patients a month in urgent care in one of the busiest clinics in San Jose — while we have noticed an uptick in cases which matches wastewater data, the symptoms & severity thus far don’t seem out of the ordinary compared to last year. @KQED kqed.org/news/12091325/…
