When you see a news article like this on the association of tick bites and the unusual condition of being allergic to red meat, where do you go for more information? I start with the @CDCgov. Here is a US map with the incidence from 2017 to 2022. It maps on the host range of the 'lone star tick,' shown below. The incidence was 30% of all people tested during those years and increased over 40% in that five year time. Important: this CDC report indicates over 40% of healthcare providers had never heard of this syndrome. For a healthcare provider, seeing a new onset, often severe, allergic reaction associated with eating should make you think of Alpha-Gal Syndrome. I am completely exhausted and infuriated that even in 2026, I am still forced to worry about Covid every single time I walk into a medical setting because the vast majority of healthcare workers don't even bother to wear N95 respirators. It is incredibly disheartening to witness firsthand the people I am supposed to trust with my health acting like an airborne virus doesn't exist, remaining stuck in the droplet dogma of the past. I should not know more about transmission dynamics and how it spreads than these very same people, it is simply not acceptable and should not still be happening in 2026. If the consequences of ignoring basic safety only fell on the people making those choices, it would be one thing. Instead, from what I’ve personally experienced, it is the vulnerable patients who end up paying the price for a total lack of accountability from the very professionals who are supposed to protect us. End of this rant! 😡

There's very little COVID testing being registered in Puerto Rico now, but hospitalization data does seem to be showing an increase. Perhaps a summer wave is starting. I know people who are sick now (flu-like disease), that's why I looked. I'll keep an eye on it.
