Botswana President Duma Boko has returned home following a state visit to Zimbabwe and official trip to ESwatini for celebrations marking 40 years of King Mswati III’s uninterrupted reign, as well as his 58th birthday. During his visit to Zimbabwe, Boko participated in the 5th Session of the Botswana–Zimbabwe Bi-National Commission alongside President Emmerson Mnangagwa. At the session, the two countries signed eight memorandums of Understanding and two memorandums of Agreement, covering the following areas: • Defence cooperation and training exchange programmes; • Police cooperation in combating livestock theft and other cross-border crimes; • Immigration cooperation • Cooperation in the field of prison and correctional services; • Transfer of sentenced persons • Coordination of aeronautical search and rescue services; • Cooperation and assistance in the investigation of civil aircraft accidents and serious incidents; • Promotion of cooperatives and the development of micro, small, and medium enterprises; • Economic, trade, and investment promotion; • Collaboration on the Museum of African Liberation; Boko also attended high-level engagements, including the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair in Bulawayo, before proceeding on an official visit to Eswatini where he attended celebrations marking 40 years of King Mswati III’s uninterrupted reign, as well as the King’s 58th birthday. King Mswati III ascended to the throne im 1986 at the age of 18.

In Uganda, Musa Hasahya, 68, has attracted attention for having 12 wives and 102 children over the years. Zimbabwe and Botswana are set to introduce passport-free travel for their citizens, allowing movement between the two countries using national identity cards instead of passports. The initiative will be implemented in phases, beginning with short visits and border communities. Botswana is also upgrading its ID system to enable the arrangement. The move strengthens cooperation between the two countries and follows similar travel agreements Botswana already has with Namibia and Zambia.
