During a state banquet at Windsor Castle, King Charles III reportedly made a light-hearted comment praising Nigerian jollof rice.
Speaking to Nigerian guests, he joked that he was “firmly assured that the jollof was only the best: Nigerian, of course,” which quickly sparked reactions online.
The remark came during an event honoring Bola Tinubu and reignited the long-running and often playful debate over which country makes the best jollof rice—especially between Nigeria and its West African neighbors.

John Mahama is expected to present a historic resolution at the United Nations General Assembly on March 25, during the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery.
The proposed resolution seeks to have the UN formally recognize the transatlantic slave trade as the gravest crime against humanity. If adopted, it would mark a first-of-its-kind decision at the global level.
Supporters argue that the move could strengthen global calls for justice, reparations, and healing, while also encouraging a broader acknowledgment of historical injustices. Ghana says the initiative is aimed at recognizing the past while helping shape a more just future.

The United States has expanded its visa bond programme to include 30 African countries, requiring some travelers to pay a $15,000 refundable bond when applying for certain visas.
From April 2, applicants from countries such as Ethiopia, Lesotho, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, and Tunisia seeking B1 (business) or B2 (tourism) visas will be required to post the bond.
U.S. officials say the policy is intended to reduce visa overstays and save taxpayer money. However, critics argue it could strain diplomatic relations and impact trade and travel between the U.S. and Africa.
The move comes ahead of key international engagements, including the upcoming U.S.-Africa Business Summit.

A couple from Tennessee went viral after sharing a photo of their newborn son, who appeared to have a much darker skin tone than both parents.
The mother suggested that the baby’s appearance was due to “skipped-generation” ancestry, implying that traits from distant relatives resurfaced. However, geneticists explain that skin color is influenced by many genes often dozens and does not typically “skip” generations in a simple way.
Experts note that while genetics can produce surprising variations, it would be extremely rare for two white parents to have a baby with very dark skin without some recent mixed ancestry in the family line.
The story sparked widespread debate online, with many people offering alternative explanations and turning the baby’s photo into one of the most discussed viral posts.

A 15-year-old student, Heman Bekele, has gained global attention for developing a low-cost soap designed to help treat and prevent skin cancer.
He began working on the idea at age 14 and was later named TIME’s 2024 Kid of the Year after winning the 3M Young Scientist Challenge. The soap uses lipid-based nanoparticles to deliver an existing cancer-fighting compound, imiquimod, through the skin.
Born in Addis Ababa and raised in the U.S., Bekele was inspired by workers exposed to harsh sunlight in Ethiopia who lacked access to affordable treatment. His innovation aims to make skin cancer prevention and treatment far more accessible, with a projected cost of under $10 per pack compared to tens of thousands for conventional treatments.
He is currently collaborating with researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health as his work progresses toward further testing and potential clinical approval.

Zewditu was the first Empress of the Ethiopian Empire and the first female head of an internationally recognized African country in the early 20th century.
She was the eldest daughter of Menelik II and ruled from 1916 to 1930, earning the title “Queen of Kings.” Known for her conservative and religious outlook, her reign still saw important developments driven largely by her prime minister.
During her rule, Ethiopia experienced key reforms, including steps toward the abolition of slavery and increased engagement with the League of Nations.
Since none of her children survived, she was succeeded by her minister, Haile Selassie I, marking a significant transition in Ethiopian leadership.

A woman has sparked debate online after advising women not to marry men in their 30s who lack a stable income.
She argued that a man’s “prime” is between ages 20 and 40, claiming that those who haven’t achieved financial stability by then may struggle to succeed later in life.
Her comments have divided opinions, with some agreeing on the importance of financial stability in relationships, while others criticize the view as overly rigid and dismissive of individual circumstances and different life paths.
