Let me know if this is just me: Noticed someone I know who is very "AI-pilled" and uses agents 24/7 to... start to talk noticeably more like these LLMs write. Eg more heavily using adjectives like "geniune", frequently terms like "the shape of" and many more examples

I post my thoughts, nothing. I post my dev work, nothing. I post my face, thinking that would work, nothing. I post about my transition from biochem to developer at 37, I get some reactions. I post the 💩 let's connect post, X explodes. So sad.

If you say “ads don’t work,” you’re really saying that you’re ceding that growth channel to competitors who know what they’re doing. You might say: “Yes, of course! I prefer SEO and Social and building attention over time. More fun, better customers.” Good answer, but that’s different from saying “ads don’t work.” Cross-apply to all other marketing channels.

controlling your stack is non negotiable. the fact that I rely on openai for all kinds of personal stuff like managing my linux systems puts me in a deep uncomfortable panic. And I actually *like* openai. Imagine how much I'd be losing my mind if it were anthropic only

You can brainwash yourself into success. I'm dead serious. Your brain takes in 11 million bits of data per second and filters it down to roughly 50. Your Reticular Activating System decides what makes the cut based on what you tell it matters. Tell it you're going to win and it starts finding proof you will. I've moved across the world twice to reprogram my brain. Both times I surrounded myself with people who had zero idea who I used to be. Everyone I met only knew the version of me I decided to be that day. It worked both times. If you're just stuck, if things aren't changing, they're not going to change on their own. How can you expect anything in you to change if you don't change the inputs you're getting? Go. Right now. If you want to be different a year from now, start today. Brainwash yourself.

☀️Story time: a couple of hours ago, I got locked out of my vintage car at a Costco parking lot. Before rushing to return my cart like a good son, I mindlessly tossed my millennial murse into the passenger seat and slammed the door. The universe, deciding to be extra spicy today, locked that door behind me. OK, I'm paying attention. Either it wants to make sure my recovery protocols are green or teach me a lesson. > I've been through this one before, I know exactly how to run this fire drill. Gripping through my pockets all I had was an iphone and an ounce of practiced dread > great now I have to actually ask for help. My mental checklist: - uber home and find my backup key - can I even get into my house? - call insurance to send a locksmith - will I be roasting for 45min? - shake all the door handles - bang on the glass in protest Then I noticed the mobile key maker guys and quickly thought: > maybe these guys have locksmith tools? after shooting that idea down I opened uber ~ 10 minutes away > fine lets get something moving time ticking slowly by, watching the driver do senseless loopty loops as I'm roasting in an early morning blaze > this is hella dumb. grandmas glaring at me like I'm trying to break into my own car so I jiggle the handles and bang on the glass even harder. > fuck this. reminded myself that "the more options I explore the more luck I'll have" ~ translation: try the key guys walked over, made my pitch. > so funny story, I literally just got locked out of my car right now. do you guys have like a jimmy or something? homie sitting up on his phone jumps up: > oh hell yeah I have just the thing! > my wife gets locked out all the time. ~ returns from his truck with a long pink wire I cancelled uber. accepted the stupid $5 fee after already waiting for 7 out of 10 minutes. somehow the guy full of energy to just be of damn help was much more valuable to me. ~ back at the car we're realizing the wire is too thick and too short to reach the unlock button. > what if we used the hook end to pull the lock back? < YEAH! we take turns trying to shimmy the too-thick wire through the seam in the door. more people giving us awkward glares. we're both gasping as it's finally getting into place. on edge like it's the final inning in the playoffs. > oooooooh! > almost! ~ take a breather. > okay you try to force it in my hands are greasy By now, we're both roasting and sweating under a sun a little too high for 10am. This random chill AF guy is deeply vested in getting my door opened, and I catch myself increasingly forgetting about the scratches on my paint just to see this resolve. ~ finally the hook is positioned just perfectly to pull it back, and we both take turns fighting sweat to get a little more leverage until finally > CLICK < we both looked at each other and cheered loudly > FUCK YEAH!!! high fives turned into high tens, and 'bro we did it hugs' gushing in my appreciation, I found myself looking for ways to thank him. > you work here at Costco or you with the key dudes? < nah, I'm here with key dudes I pop open my trunk, realizing I have a cold 12 pack of cold press green juice ~ best I got. > you want one of these man? < hell yeah. > take two. Universe made this happen today at the cost of $5 wasted to uber, a suntan I didn't ask for, and a scratched up door, but gave me the kind of life experience you can only get by making different choices. I think there are a handful of lessons the universe wanted to teach me today. If you read this far, tell me... what do you think those are? 🤔

These past 2 weeks have been a bit slow on X because I had to take care of many other things. Still managed to have X covering parts of my subscriptions. This is a phase of my life that I would simply describe as “busy and happy.” I just wanted to stop by and say thank you to everyone who shows up, supports me, and cheers me on whenever I post. Twitter, well, now X, changed my life. Working on my social media presence instead of just coding alone in a dark room, which I did for so many years, changed everything. The goal today is to record more videos, then hopefully we’ll go live. Stay tuned.

@leerob writing is so insanely personal that you mostly don't want to play a quantity game here on that note, the best play ive found for quantity is giving it a corpus of work that distills your voice + word choice to generate derivatives from but not for creating primary work

Are current LLMs incompatible with great creative writing? I can't tell if it's cope or not, but it seems like even with the best models, I still can't get them to write like humans would. For coding, there is a verifiable reward like it compiling or tests passing. But for creative work like writing, it's much more subjective. I have struggled to prompt / harness the models to write truly amazing work. They are fantastic for spell checking, grammar suggestions, and taking on different personas to read and critique work. Maybe it's because I'm only doing nonfiction, and to write something top 0.1% means that you need to think over a long horizon and develop an interesting insight about the world. Great writing is clear thinking. I've even asked models to try 10 different versions of a blog post, then have a council of models grade and critique the results and pick the best parts... and still I end up with this lowest common denominator slop. Skill issue? Someone show me the way.

We are here when you are ready @tenstorrent. We love how you build in public and have buy it now buttons on your website (unlike certain other fake chip companies). Let's get you a software stack to match!
Joe Fioti@joefioti

I really want to like TT (cool hardware!) but every time they make announcements like this I go look and its always hand-optimized special-cased nonsense that runs *just* this model at like batch_size=1. No one buys hardware to run a single model, you guys need a proper compiler!
