I want to thank @FreedomHouse for the Mark Palmer Prize. There are many people in Georgia who deserve this prize through me: conscience prisoners jailed for 18 months for nothing, journalists who have been ill-treated, and citizens arrested just for standing on the pavement.

We commend the Congressional-Executive Commission on China (@CECCgov ) for shining a spotlight on the Chinese Communist Party's transnational repression campaign. The Chinese government remains the world's leading perpetrator of transnational repression, targeting critics, activists, journalists, and diaspora communities far beyond China's borders.
Addressing this threat is an area for strong bipartisan action. Congress should continue advancing efforts to combat transnational repression, including codifying a clear definition of TNR in U.S. law to strengthen accountability and protect those targeted for exercising their fundamental rights.

One week after the transfer of detainees from El Helicoide, authorities have yet to publish official lists or provide verified information about their whereabouts and conditions. Families remain in the dark, unable to contact or support their loved ones. Lack of transparency surrounding these transfers raises serious concerns and cannot be mistaken for meaningful reform. Moving detainees from one facility to another does not address the structural crisis at the heart of Venezuela’s justice system.
What is needed is not a cosmetic change, but a comprehensive overhaul of institutions to restore the rule of law, judicial independence, due process guarantees, fair trials, and access to justice.
