Happy National Small Business Week where we recognize the service and commitment of small business owners around South Carolina and the country. Small businesses account for nearly half of America’s private sector workforce and 43 percent of SC’s employees. In 2025, there were over 530,000 small businesses in South Carolina employing more than 863,000 people, an increase of nearly 5 percent from last year. In March, I was grateful to visit Flanigan’s Ice Cream, a local small business in Aiken.

Eliminating the sanctions meant for the Assad regime that continued to plague the people of free Syria remains a strong bipartisan effort. I am grateful the sanctions are lifted and American companies can invest. Unlike the Biden crime family, President Trump never took bribes from communists working against American interest. The brutal Assad regime gave kickbacks to aid organizations while pretending to provide aid to the people of Syria, instead laundered money to the elites, even trading favors for a Vogue cover. Where was the outrage for the genocidal dictator Assad’s actual bribes of Americans?

This should be on the front page of every newspaper in America. A Syrian billionaire needed U.S. sanctions lifted so he could cash in on $12 billion in reconstruction contracts. In an attempt to influence American foreign policy, he proposed a Trump-branded golf course, cut Jared Kushner & Ivanka Trump into a multibillion-dollar real estate deal for a resort in Albania, and had someone physically deliver a stone engraved with the Trump family crest to a Republican Member of Congress with instructions to take it to the White House to get the President's attention. Trump threw his weight behind repealing the sanctions. They were lifted. The contracts are moving, the Trump family’s deals are expanding, and not a single Washington Republican is willing to say a word about any of it. This is not just timely — it is long overdue. Russia must be held accountable for its systematic assault on religious freedom. Across Ukraine’s temporarily occupied territories, Russia persecutes and murders clergy, destroys churches, bans entire faith communities, and weaponizes religion to impose fear and control. It is also a direct attack on a fundamental human right — the freedom to believe, to worship, and to live without fear.

Refugees, once naturalized, have the same vote as all US citizens —Sitting on juries. Refugees, once naturalized, can judge Americans guilty or not guilty. —Serving as judges. Refugees, once naturalized, can become the final authority where you live on the meaning and application of the United States Constitution —Serving as police officers. Mayors can recruit those admitted as refugees to serve as police officers with the power to arrest Americans. —Free medical care —Free housing —Free food —Free education —Preferences in hiring and university admissions —Chain migration for their extended families

As a 31-year veteran myself, it was an honor to attend the USO Gala and support an organization that serves our servicemembers and their families around the globe, including in austere environments, deployment zones, and even aboard ships at sea. The unwavering commitment of USO staff and volunteers to those who serve reflects the very best of our nation. It was a privilege to be in the company of leaders like Chairman of @theJointstaff General Dan Caine, who remain dedicated to supporting those who wear the uniform and defending our great country.
