Homayra Sharifi, a 19-year-old imprisoned in Evin Prison after her arrest during the 2026 nationwide protests, was hospitalized on July 10 after attempting suicide. She remains under medical treatment. Sharifi reportedly drank a corrosive cleaning liquid and was initially transferred to Loghman Hospital before being moved to Taleghani Hospital. An informed source told HRANA that fellow prisoners found her vomiting blood and a dark-colored liquid in the prison ward. The source said Sharifi has attempted suicide more than five times since her arrest. Despite suffering from severe psychological distress and a skin condition, she has reportedly been denied adequate medical and mental health care. Sharifi, an Afghan national, was notified in June of a five-year prison sentence while held in Evin Prison. Arrested during the January 2026 nationwide protests, she was initially detained in Qarchak Prison before being transferred to Evin on February 16, 2026.
