Artist. I like to make comics. Mostly original stuff, sometimes fanart. Occasionally I talk about videogames.

@TreyPowell1964 Played through Ep 1 last year and I think the way you do it is great. There's more player expression in your combat alone then a lot of games, and that plays into what I like about imsims.
I think wanting all imsims to play the same, or share the same mechanics defeats the point

I get the same rigid restrictions from imsim gatekeepers. We let you do so much shit in Aces but people sometimes don't lump it in within the genre. There may be one or two scripted moments in the game and once that happens everything goes out the window.

I believe this is the crux of the issue, and no immersive sim is immune to it. I've seen people argue "the game didn't let me skip X by doing Y, so it's bad" for every single game in the genre. People will readily strip them of being an imsim by vague, subjective goal posts.

@turboghosto Sleeping dogs is an example of this. If I remember right, all the combos are locked behind finding jade statues. you could unlock most of your moves in the early game, but you'd have to scour the city for collectables.

@TafferKing451 Over the years I've seen people try to explain what an imsim is, and %90 of the time, someone else responds by explaining that their rigid definition would exclude the Deus ex, or Thief games.
It usually comes down to "if I like it, it's an imsim, and if I don't then it isn't"

@WungusDasPungus It's because immersive sims originally meant 'Western RPG design with systemic choice', not a literal simulation of every conceivable player action, but some players expect every immersive sim to be a physics sandbox first and an intentionally designed game second.

@TehSnakerer Funny thing is I learned it from the news post they did on steam. I'm pretty sure they added the tutorial pop-up in an update after that.

@JimmyDArtist I am enjoying it for its absurd AA-ness. Actually smiled when I got the tutorial for this mechanic out of nowhere on a random event street fight out of nowhere. Like the game forgot to tell me

@Timothy1395 @RealGameVault I'm going to be honest, I was not actually expecting it to be from the book. It just seemed so random. Though I guess the movies have their fair share of goofy moments too

@JimmyDArtist @RealGameVault Those are gnomes and this is at Ron’s house. Ron’s house has a gnome infestation and in the book he chucks them over the fence along with Ron to get rid of them. The reason there is a car there is cause Ron’s dad likes to do magic enchantments on muggle items.

@spnidelman Enemies being able to mess up the grenade throw is great. Reminds me of Max Payne 2, where the same thing would happen pretty frequently.
