@BrianDiSab That news clip is packaged to make incurious people think the state lost billions of dollars, but in reality income tax revenue is up in Massachusetts, including revenue from the millionaires tax. So from that point of view, it worked!

In the coming years, Delaware is going to have to raise a lot more money. They can either cut spending dramatically, raise taxes or grow the tax base. Here is what happens when you raise taxes.. they move, making you have to.. raise more money!

Massachusetts introduced a millionaire tax. In 2023, 41,000 residents left the state taking $4.2 billion with them. 70% of that came from the top tax bracket. Money moves. Always has. Always will.

None of the “Well we could just do X to fund SEPTA” proposals will work because the GOP doesn’t want to fund SEPTA. It’s not a budget choice, they want to keep Philadelphia weakened and fractured so it doesn’t threaten their hegemony over state politics.

Delaware pulled in more revenue from corporations and LLCs this year than last. There is no fiscal crisis! It was all made-up! Our lawmakers got PLAYED! Very sad to see, but not unexpected.
