The downfall of 6Music is baffling. Going from a station with a clear identity and knowing who it's audience was to the current jumble sale is madness. Not to mention MAH playing 2 hours of deranged jungle during the day. Utter nonsense.

@stephenkb @DPJHodges Ok fair enough,I get your point. I just wanted to give some behind the scenes perspective from Swindon South, because you mentioned it specifically. The rest of the coverage is above my pay grade tbh.

@JoshThorpeBBC @DPJHodges Ok, well, to repeat: my point wasn't about Swindon South solely - it was about the absence of counts through choice later on in the programme. If that hadn't happened, I wouldn't have mistaken a technical issue for an editorial call.

1) This is a nice, classy speech. 2) This is what was lost on a lot of the election night telly, where there was far too much chat and not enough counts.

@stephenkb @DPJHodges As I said at the start, I don't know about those. I was just giving my experience as a producer at Swindon South, it wasn't an editorial issue there, I am not making any broader point about BBC coverage

@DPJHodges @JoshThorpeBBC Indeed. Fine to say 'I think interviews and chat are better choices than counts on election night'. Maybe it was, I accept that 'person who rewatches BBC election night programming the weekend after so he can enjoy it without having to report on it' is a niche use case.

@DPJHodges @stephenkb Yes and as I mentioned we had a live feed up, which cut out due to a sound issue, which happens, it's live broadcast, it wasn't an editorial decision to miss the start of the declaration

@JoshThorpeBBC @stephenkb Joshua, I think this perfectly underlines the problem with your coverage, and your attitude to it. We didn’t want interviews with the candidates giving their assessment of the results. We wanted the actual results themselves.

@stephenkb @DPJHodges You said the BBC "didn't cover Swindon South". I refute that, we covered it extensively on TV and radio, and did 3 live interviews with Robert Buckland on different outlets. BTW we also covered Swindon North on both TV and radio

@DPJHodges @stephenkb Well we did deal with it, the sound issue got resolved and we went live to the declaration and speeches as soon as we could.

@stephenkb My point is it wasn't an editorial decision not to get the start of the count. There was an issue with the sound on the live feed at the start which meant we missed the first bit of the declaration, but we still covered it. No idea about the other 2 though

I got to vote in 2 elections on the same day. In person in the UK and by internet for the 2nd round of the French election. I will never ever take that for granted. Democracy is a wonderful thing!
