Every Mother's Day, this memory still makes me smile. When I was barely older than a toddler, I was terrified of thunderstorms. I'd cry. I'd look for someplace to hide from the booms and crashes. One day, during a particularly violent storm, my Mom, with nothing more than the promise to hold my hand somehow convinced me to stand on the front porch with her to watch it. I was so effing scared, but Mom, true to her word, held my hand. After every very loud thunderclap, she'd look at me and let out a little giggle. If she was laughing, I realized I was silly to be so afraid. I began to see the beauty in nature's violence. From then on, I loved "danger weather." A love that continues to this day. So, thank you, Mom, for giving me courage and giving me one more reason to love mother earth. Forever grateful for you, Mom. Love you always.
