Games need to start appealing to niches more than general audiences in order to have any sort of distinctive characteristic. Friction points are not an inherent indicator of bad design, because a friction generates heat and warmth which in turn creates attachment. A frictionless game remains cold, featureless, with nothing to hold onto.

@Critical_Scribe This is how I also feel about writing advice. My process is so particular to me that it probably wouldn't work for you. It's still right for me. I also ascribe to Neil Gaiman's notion that, at our very core, all competent writers don't REALLY know how we do it at all.

“Turn Based Combat was outdated” No it wasn’t. The people who said that weren’t playing Final Fantasy to begin with By that logic, Chess is outdated By that logic, Chess needs to evolve into a game where you throw the pieces at each other in real time

Square by that time merged with Enix and decided to go on a new route and took out turned base combat because it was outdated and by that time turned based combat was losing popularity , FFXII may not be the best FF but it wasnt that bad either
