@TheEconomist Venezuela was corrupt, so is Iran. Venezuela was not ideology free, Venezuela was held hostage with Chavismo. A good portion of Itan is being held hostage by a Theocracy. The difference between the situations is the recency of a democratic form of governance.

Venezuela was uniquely vulnerable to Donald Trump’s transactional approach, because it has long been corrupt and ideology-free. If the president follows the same model with the Iranian regime, he will fail economist.com/leaders/2026/0…

@bonchieredstate The US seems to be inadvertently stoking a civil war. Eventually the civil leaders of Iran and IRGCC will be fighting in the streets. I guess the citizens may back the civil leaders in the hopes they moderate or they make it a mess and open a third front in the streets.

@JeffFaraudo "co-athletic directors Jenny Simon-O'Neill and Jay Larson" I see CAL has a sense of humor with two AD's and still firing rank and file for "efficiency".

@TheEconomist What prosperity do tell. GDP Per Capita over the past decade tells a much different story. Factor in time value of money and Canadians are going backwards. Canada needs to adopt more free market principles and less socialist principles.

Above all, it seems that voters want someone who stands up to Donald Trump. Mark Carney has acknowledged that he would not have become prime minister or Liberal leader, had it not been for the Trumpian threats to Canada’s prosperity economist.com/the-americas/2…

@johncanzanobft There is a new trend for baseball tournaments to be hosted at neutral sites like Arizona. Where would be the ideal location for the PAC? On Campus, NOCL, SOCAL, LV, AZ, or even the PNW?

@goldenbearwire Nice. A Cal fan starts the rumor that Madsen was taking the USU job. And when the rumor turns out to be false, you flag USU fans for a rumor they didn't start. Hat tip.

Envision Sports Group is saying SDSU guard BJ Davis intends to enter the transfer portal when it opens April 7. However, no confirmation from SDSU yet. It's my understanding they're still talking/negotiating with players.

@TheEconomist Cubans don’t have stable energy, food, work, or freedom. But they apparently only want to exit squalor if it meets their aesthetic or refined sensibilities? Get the fuck out of here. The longest lines for food in Barcelona is Taco Bell.

Not every Cuban wants a McDonald’s on the Malecón, Havana’s seafront promenade, but they do want an economy that functions. Could a deal with America achieve this? economist.com/the-americas/2…

@ralphDrussoATH That is not a problem. Everyone always acts in their best interests. It’s folly to believe that a system or rules or government or economic system would ever stop people from acting in their best interests.

NCAA changes targeting penalty for 2026: player ejected for targeting for 1st time in a season can play in next game; player ejected for a 2nd targeting offense will miss 1st half of next game; 3rd targeting ejection warrants a full one-game suspension on3.com/news/ncaa-d1-f…

@sdutzeigler Why does the B1G and SEC want to expand the tournament? SEC — 10 out of 16 Big Ten — 9 out of 18 ACC — 8 out 18 Big 12 — 8 out of 16 35/68 total slots. 31 out of 37 at large spots. I guess they go to 76 teams and we can add in sub 500 teams from the SEC and B1G.
