UK Labour to commit to keeping a medical diagnosis of gender dysphoria as part of its planned reforms to gender recognition. That is another policy divergence from Scottish Labour who, in December, were whipped to back SNP reforms. theguardian.com/politics/2023/…

Scottish Labour devolved policy on GRA reform hasn’t been ‘overruled’. Today social justice spokesperson Paul O’Kane reiterated our policy in favour of self-id, which is consistent with how we voted last year. Due to UK gov blocking the Bill, it’ll be settled in court.

My marriage isn’t up for debate.
These rights were hard fought for and hard won for me and hundreds of others across Scotland.
They are celebrated by our allies, families and friends.

As a gay married woman, it matters to me whether my First Minister believes that my marriage is valid.
It tells me whether they believe in my equality and dignity as a citizen.
Any First Minister should be able to answer that question: clearly, directly, and positively.

Whether the s35 Order is justified depends on reasons advanced by HMG for saying GRR has adverse effect on UK equality law. For the reasons I have tweeted those reasons do not begin to justify its use. It’s a nuclear weapon used in a minor skirmish.
