Today is 20 years since @UKLabour repealed Section 28 in England and Wales. Our patron, @angelaeagle, reflects on the progress made in the fight for LGBT+ rights, and the long journey still ahead.

A statement from the LGBT+ Labour National Committee following the announcement of a pause on the Puberty Blockers Trial:

9/ More broadly, we urgently need to build a conversation in this country that supports the basic rights of trans people to access medicine and live with dignity and respect.

8/ and provide mental health support for those who desperately need it, as well as delivering a comprehensive, trans-inclusive ban on conversion practices.

1/ We welcome @wesstreeting’s announcement of a clinical trial into the efficacy and safety of puberty blockers for treating children with gender dysphoria. This serves as a vital step towards providing young trans people with good, timely, and evidence-led healthcare.

Today, on Transgender Day of Remembrance, we remember the trans people around the world whose lives have been cut short by transphobic hate in the past year. We must continue to work for a world in which all trans people are free to live, with dignity, safety, and equality.

Congratulations to LGBT+ Labour patron Olivia Bailey MP on her appointment as minister with responsibility for LGBT+ policy and legislation, including a ban on conversion practices. We look forward to working with her in her new role to deliver for all LGBT+ people.
