The markets will always offer yield. But how you earn it tells a lot about who you are
Today someone funded the first tokenized student loan on Pencil Finance
Not betting on another memecoin pump, not farming another DeFi protocol, and instead betting on a kid who wants to change the world
Students won't have to pay 20+% interest rates per week from loan sharks just to get a degree anymore and anyone can earn fixed income while making an impact
Every transaction is a vote and someone just voted for human potential over quick profits
This is what Web3 was actually built for

$1M Distributed to Fund Student Loans The first $1 million raised on-chain has now been distributed to borrowers—directly funding student loans across Southeast Asia. Real capital, real impact. This is what DeFi looks like when it works for people. Onward.

I left corporate law to learn coding
Everyone told me it was career suicide
5 years later:
- Scaled Crypto.com's product team
- Joined Magic Eden as Head of Product
- Became Head of Portfolio at @AnimocaBrands
- Co-founded @OpenCampus_xyz
Here's the story:
I was working 60+ hour weeks as a corporate lawyer, drafting contracts and sitting through compliance meetings
The money was good, but something felt wrong
I kept seeing these tech companies change the world while I was helping banks navigate regulations...
So one weekend, I signed up for Startup Weekend in Hong Kong with zero tech experience. My team didn't win, but I met passionate people building things that actually mattered
That’s when I knew I had to change paths
The transition was brutal though. I tried juggling law with being a startup co-founder and completely bombed. Wasn't ready for it and couldn't give it the time it needed
That failure taught me something crucial: if you want to make a real change, you have to go all in
So I quit law, flew to New York, and joined Fullstack Academy's coding bootcamp. Won my first hackathon there and landed several startup job offers
Then I joined Crypto.com as their first product manager. Built the team from 1 to 300+ people.
Pretty much every major product they launched, I was involved in building from the ground up... their VISA card, their Exchange, you name it
But I wanted to understand crypto native communities, so I joined Magic Eden to work on their marketplace and launchpad
I learnt how web3 really works... The culture, the people, the instincts needed
When Animoca reached out, they wanted someone who could incubate projects from scratch. OpenCampus became our first major build
We're building networks where learning gets rewarded and verified on-chain
Where anyone with internet access can gain skills and earn real income from them
My whole lawyer-to-coder journey proved that anyone can completely transform their lives with the right mindset, and openness to new ideas tools and opportunities
That's exactly what Open Campus provides. Giving people the chance to learn, prove their skills, and build a better future
Your background isn't holding you back.
It's your unfair advantage waiting to be unlocked.
