@Gyata_Ba_ Only problem I have is that they need to be Christian for Jesus' sake, not for the sake of the US or any country. To do so is to serve two different masters and that is not the way. You have to choose. Kingdom of Heaven or the USA. You can't have both.

Saw The Odyssey in IMAX 70mm As many know, I value cinematic accuracy. Some complain about its “Woke” casting. But Christopher Nolan’s choice to have actors speak English rather than authentic Ancient Greek in original dactylic hexameter is what I found to be most incredulous.

@kroozzon580 @Quocoa_cola I guess there are better ways to respond then. I just see a lot of posts on my timeline of people being "racist" in response to "racism" (Racism for a lack of a better term). It just makes everyone involved seem crazy from the outside.

@thhouseofblack I think it's beyond simply reading, you have to understand a bit more about the culture. Like the 1st chpt of the illiad, there is a reason why he doesn't want to give away his "prize" and it's presented as valid to a point. Achilles wants him to sacrifice his "honor" regardless

@HellenicEchoes Was a woman? I didn't know women were born out of divine eggs. But yes, Greeks would have expected her to look like a Mediterranean woman. But the point of her description isn't that her skin is as white as snow, but that it's fairness is indicative of nobility, it's poetry

@polemios Ancient Greek elites were not generally black, but Greece was not an isolated racial bloc. The Greek world existed within a connected Mediterranean network of trade, migration, and cultural exchange. Greek identity was shaped through interaction with peoples beyond the Aegean

@polemios You're right except for one key thing, the Hellenistic Greek identity was becoming more transferable through language and culture, not simply preserved through lineage. There were limits, but not the kind one would see in a modern context of "blood purity".

@polemios Describing this as abandoning integration or a purely hereditary ethnic monopoly is misleading. Hellenistic societies were hierarchical and unequal, yet they also incorporated local elites and allowed people to adopt Greek language and culture, it was more complicated.
