The ideal business model is a worker-owned cooperative, like the Mondragon Corporation in Spain. Here's my Throne profile: https://t.co/4KzHAiuFVO

@RnaudBertrand What did chickens eat before the industrial revolution?
English

Was discussing tonight with a friend of mine who is in the business of chicken food (as in the food you feed chicken). One of the largest such businesses out there.
Turns out, chickens quite literally eat oil: chicken feed requires methionine, a key amino acid produced with sulfur - itself extracted as a byproduct of oil refinement.
And so, as a direct consequence of the oil shock, there's now apparently major issues in the poultry industry.
Really insane to think about how deep the consequences of Trump's war on Iran go (and how dependent on oil we are): even chickens will go hungry globally because of this, and humans will inevitably follow...

In Texas we are running out of water, our hospitals are closing, you can’t get your medicine, we are a leader in child hunger. 30 years of GOP rule, giveaways to out of state billionaires and international corporations. We need a change
Texas Tribune@TexasTribune
Sixty percent of Texas counties did not have a pharmacy in 2023. In 2025, more than 4.3 million Texans lived in pharmacy deserts, meaning they must travel farther to reach a pharmacy than a supermarket. bit.ly/4bU2iuJ

@jk_rowling You’re literally running an organization to punish your political opponents.
English

If you believe free speech is for you but not your political opponents, you're illiberal.
If no contrary evidence could change your beliefs, you're a fundamentalist.
If you believe the state should punish those with contrary views, you're a totalitarian.
If you believe political opponents should be punished with violence or death, you're a terrorist.

Now San Diego.

Every coast. Every state. Every timezone.
Across the Atlantic. Across the Pacific.
No Kings doesn’t need a permit to go global.

Individualism vs. collectivism is a false dichotomy. At a certain level, every civilization is collectivist, including capitalist civilization. This is because every individual is part of a collective, and every collective is comprised of individuals. Really the only way to truly be an individual would be to become a hermit and isolate yourself in the wilderness, totally alone and separated from civilization.
English

@cmclymer americans are individualists
and we're not going to trade that in to join the body corporate
unless you can just import someone who's not an individualist

I'll tell you why I don't take you seriously when you whine about the increase in immigrant professionals moving here legally and competing against American professionals and getting hired.
It's because you sound weak. You sound small.
Sure, I could make an argument about America being built on immigration (to say nothing of slavery) and talk about our country being a melting pot and so forth, but honestly...
...I just think you sound like a whiny little bitch.
You're angry because professionals come to our country legally--learning a new language in many cases--and do the work and go heads-up against American citizens for jobs and turn out to be the best candidates.
"Why are there so many doctors and engineers and tech professionals from India and Pakistan and wherever else getting hired here over American citizens?"
Because they did the work. Because they were willing to put in the hours and slug through the challenges and meet the standard of excellence.
There are politicians who want your vote and are willing to kiss your ass and give you a glass of milk and gently rub your tummy and tell you only what you want to hear: that these jobs are being "stolen" from you.
But they're not being stolen. No one is "stealing" these jobs. There are jobs available and qualified candidates compete for them and, in many of those cases, an immigrant professional is the best person for the job.
Even if I generously assume your issue here isn't racist at the core--and I gotta say: that's a pretty big assumption--what we're still left with here is that you believe American citizens should be handed these jobs even after they've been outworked and out-qualified for them.
That makes me cringe. It feels pathetic.
It's not the America I love -- the one that demands excellence and rewards hard work and doesn't hand out participation trophies.
When I hear someone whine about this, I feel embarrassed. I want to talk over them and say:
"Look, I don't know this person's deal is, but Americans don't want things handed to us. We're willing to do the hard work and strive for excellence. We want to be the best prepared and most qualified people in the room. We want that challenge."
But you don't want that challenge. You don't want to be better. You have a lazy and entitled mindset, and it makes the rest of us look weak.
English

Jobs should be guaranteed to everyone who wants one. People shouldn't have to compete for them. Making people compete for jobs just creates artificial scarcity and transforms our economic system into something akin to The Hunger Games and/or Squid Game. Market competition is why people hate capitalism. A healthy economy should be based on principles of cooperation, not competition.

@cmclymer @cmclymer Please read Thomas Paine’s “Agrarian Justice,” and stop promoting the logical fallacies of Ayn Rand’s ideological death cult.

@BigFish3000 Nice try. I took the Amtrak home.
We tried to pay TSA almost a dozen times and Republicans said no every time. Then the GOP Speaker closed session last night and sent everyone home.
Please Google what party is in charge of Congress right now. The answer may surprise you!
