The clip that went viral during Jolani’s interview with Chatham House was him not knowing how to open a water bottle. That was funny but that was to distract from this. When asked if a woman could be president of Syria, he made a joke out of it—the audience laughed with him and even clapped because they’re also Islamist apologists. He’s a jihadist. He’s basically saying this is what we think of women, what are you going to do about it? The West installed this terrorist. Fools.

I see that this 5Pillars readers’ poll has angered many of my Syrian brothers and sisters, and understandably so, because irrespective of this mainly UK-based poll, Ahmed al-Sharaa is hugely popular among Syrians, whether non-Syrians like him or not. We carried out similar reader polls when the Taliban took over in 2021 and when Muhammad Yunus took over after Sheikh Hasina was toppled in 2024. 5Pillars is not Syrian or Iranian state media. Our readership is predominantly Western, English-speaking Muslims in the diaspora, and there are differing views among our senior editorial staff about the Ummah’s geopolitical affairs. My personal views on Syria and its revolution are well known and documented since 2011. May Allah (swt) bring peace, security and prosperity to Syria and its people. Ameen.

During yesterday's Jummah Khutbah in the Great Umayyad Mosque of Damascus, the Imam not only mentioned the oppressed Palestinian hostages, but he also mentioned the oppressed Rohingya and Uyghur Muslims. This Khutbah was impossible and unthinkable under the Assad regime.

Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa on Iran War: Iran has a problem of trying to manufacture ballistic missiles and the nuclear bomb and trying to influence other countries. We recommend negotiations rather than military power because it will lead to more dangers. Unless Syria is targeted directly by any party, Syria will remain outside any conflict. We had enough war. We paid a large bill. We are not ready for another war experience. Those who have been in war know the value of peace. No one is ready to be involved in war, and we will not be in it unless we are subject to aggression and we have no diplomatic solution.
