There will also ultimately be >100k V3/V4/V5 satellites for Starlink broadband and direct to cellphone connectivity. If growth continues, Starlink will one day carry the majority of Internet traffic. At that point, it is the Internet and everything else just connects to Starlink.

This is the same vantage point, captured with a MUCH better and IR-sensitive camera. It’s also available in print for a short time here: cosmicbackground.io/pages/against-…

Update linked here on Starship’s performance today. For these development missions the most critical thing is getting the data, and getting data on engine out performance as well as an awesome entry is a great outcome today. There were lots of things happening in Mission Control but Starship flew through them and had an awesome landing. Tons to learn from ship and booster. It’s great to be flying again and to show off this new rocket. Thanks to everyone at @SpaceX working tirelessly to bringing the future to life, it’s awesome working alongside you all.

Today SpaceX launched ~45tons of Starlink mass simulators on Starship Flight 12, the highest payload tonnage to space since Saturn V's Skylab (77t) in 1973. This is a huge milestone for spaceflight and cannot be ignored, the future of space and this program is so bright!!

BREAKING: The FAA has not made a determination on whether a mishap investigation will be required following today's launch. A debris response area was activated and caused 6 departure delays, 5 airborne holding events, and no aircraft diversions. The agencies assessment is focusing on the anomaly observed with Booster 19, with no mention of Ship 39. @NASASpaceflight

I think we got to see the consequences of the lack of full blast shielding. Boostback probably would have gone fine minus one engine had this single engine, either E5 or E6, not had an energetic event and took out 16 of its neighboring engines.
