I hate this from a lore perspective. What on EARTH is preventing Golbat from evolving here? Not having a mechanical upgrade to the Pokedex? Is there something inside that machine in which it provides the perfect atmosphere for Golbat to evolve?!

The single most insane decision in any Pokémon Game is to make it so that Golbat cannot evolve in FRLG until the post-game, but still play the evolution animation every single time it levels up, and I'm just happy an entire new generation will get to experience it.
