On Memorial Day, we pay tribute to the brave men and women in uniform who gave their lives for this country that we love. It is a debt we can never fully repay, but we must never stop trying. I’ll always be grateful to our fallen heroes and their families, whose sacrifice reminds us of what it means to live for something greater than ourselves.

Naptime for Bumpy, with no detail spared: a soft bean bag, a cosy blanket, and a special nanny to watch him as he sleeps! Pips the giraffe loves to look after the little orphans – so naturally she was very excited to meet the small, stout hippo who just entered the fold.
Bumpy is our newest rescue. After his mother died, the little orphan spent at least a day huddled by her body before the Kenya Wildlife Service found him and brought him into our care. Now at our Kaluku Unit, he is really settling in – and sleeping in!

We often joke that Kaikai loves the mud bath so much than she would sleep in it, if she could. This is actually more fact than fiction, as she sometimes manages to catch a few winks in the water!
Such was the case here. She turned herself around like the face of a clock, took the briefest of siestas, gave herself another quarter turn just for good measure, and then resumed relaxation. We know better than to rush her – it’s Kaikai’s world; we just live in it!
Kaikai is one of the youngest orphans in our care. Her mother died of natural causes when she was just a few days old. Now, she has a family with us and wild future ahead of her.
