The Middle East is about to get extremely stormy - from a weather perspective, that is. A deep trough over Egypt & Saudi Arabia is expected to force a severe weather outbreak & torrential rain capable of extreme flooding over UAE, parts of Iran, and the Strait of Hormuz.

Found this neat swirl off the western coast of Africa. Pops off a little convection at the end. Cute little guy.

🌧️ April Rainfall & Flood Risk Outlook – #Europe Latest statistical analog ensemble forecast signals (NCEP/NCAR + Arkin–Xie index of rainfall density) point to a robust wet pattern across much of Europe during April, driven by repeated Atlantic storm tracks and enhanced moisture transport. In the attached maps the🟣 Deep purplish anomalies = highest concern. These areas indicate above-normal rainfall with elevated convective potential, increasing the risk of torrential downpours and flooding. ⚠️ Primary high-risk zones for torrential rainfall: 🇫🇷 France (core signal) 🇩🇪 Germany 🇨🇭 Switzerland & Alpine region 🇦🇹 Austria 🇨🇿 Czechia / 🇵🇱 Poland Extending into parts of Central & Eastern Europe 🌧️ Moderate wet signal: 🇬🇧 UK Northern Italy & Balkans → Periods of steady rain with occasional heavy bursts 🔻 Drier than normal: 🇪🇸 Spain & parts of Portugal (suppressed rainfall signal) due to the possible rise of the Azores high that may Persist during April. However, North African countries inner plains may still experience risk of floods like S Algeria, W Libya and Tunisian inlands. 🧭 Bottom line: April favors a persistent wet regime over Western & Central Europe, with France into Central Europe as the (core corridor) for repeated rainfall events and localized flood risk, especially where storms train over the same areas. NB: The Arkin-Xie Index of rainfall is an measure of rainfall density, or severity although its archival available timeseries data is limited it is helpful to find zones at risk of floods .
