Forty odd years on and it's still one of the best banners made about a footballer.   The year was 1974. Manchester United had just been relegated. The club that had conquered Europe six years earlier was playing Second Division football, and they needed someone to lead them back.   They found their man in a telephone engineer from Hull. 🔴 A proper working lad Before he ever kicked a ball as a professional, Stuart Pearson was training as a telephone engineer back home in Hull. Hardly the background you'd expect for one of United's most beloved strikers. That working-class graft never left him, and it showed in the way he played. ⚪️ How "Pancho" got his name (And it's not what most fans think) Here's one that surprises a lot of people. The nickname actually originated with another United player, Mark Pearson, who had long sideburns, "Pancho" being a shortened version of Francisco, a name that gained worldwide recognition from the Mexican revolution era. When Tommy Docherty went to Hull City as assistant manager, there were already two Pearsons at the club who were called Pancho, so Tommy started calling Stuart the same thing. As Pancho himself put it: "I didn't have a moustache or grow long sideburns. @tonyblackburn Tony, you do know that Johnnie Walker didn’t believe that fairy tale. How would they have had the technology and the means to put men on the moon all those years ago? Moon buggies etc? One of the greatest conjuring tricks in history.

I remember watching the first man on the moon landing some 50years ago which was very exciting as this new mission is. Can anyone tell me why it is that they are not actually going to land on the moon but circle round it. It’s not a criticism I’m just interested to know why they are not actually going to land on the moon.

@WayneSBarton @ManUtd I’ve never quite understood why he was sold to Stoke if his goal-scoring was as good as it was.

On this day in 1960, Dennis Viollet struck a @ManUtd club record when he scored his 32nd league goal of the season. Still stands as a record - United have had some wonderful strikers before and since, but that record is still held by Dennis, a world class forward himself.

@_JessConnell I’m reading this very good, unusual, overview of the assassination. Ford pops up on page 136. Did you know that the captions to the colour still frames of the Zapruder film published in Life magazine on 6th October 1964 were written by Gerald Ford? A curious assignment for Ford?

@MickScanlon63 Glad to hear it! One viewer snagged a copy for $45 on Abe Books. I’m super thankful to the Aussie viewer who shared it with all of us. I really had no idea about Ford’s sinister role, stretching far beyond the movement of the back wound.

I love the way this book (published in Australia in 1975) goes person by person through the eyewitnesses known at the time- asking * # of shots heard? * source of shots? * any other quotes or details about them?

@_JessConnell Thanks for your reply, Jess. Ford’s real role, for me, has always been shrouded in mystery. What you said about only two members of the WC going to meet Ruby has stayed with me. Why didn’t the others go to what was a vitally important interview in the investigation?
