Reenactors do put a lot of effort in authentically polishing their armor.
Why not in media?
It probably clashes with the view of the Middle Ages as a dirty, depressing time or it doesn't fit what artistic directors think looks cool.

@Knightly_Hist fascinating, I can understand why that isn't the case for museum pieces (needs to be redone every so often and wears it down), but any reason why that's rarely seen in media or general recreations?

Just look up how they bathed immigrants with Zyklon B long before the germans used it.
