@MarshallMike76 @JeremyBRoberts They do prefer colder waters generally. The warming of swimming muscles and nervous system likely gives them an edge over many of their prey by being faster and more responsive

@JeremyBRoberts Jeremy with this adaptation ability, does this make them choose cooler waters? I know they're in most waters of various temperatures, but history suggests they prefer cooler waters over let's say warm tropical waters.

Great white sharks can regulate their body temperature, allowing them to hunt in colder waters that most sharks can't tolerate. This adaptation, called regional endothermy, gives them an advantage when stalking prey in diverse environments.

It’s time to play, “Swim, Done, or None!” I’ll post a picture or video of a shark species, and you tell me if you have swum with it (Done), would swim with it (Swim), or wouldn’t swim with it (None). Next up: the broadnose sevengill shark (Notorynchus cepedianus).

Happy to promote @EMBRC_EU which combines everything that I think makes sense today: Europe, the Ocean, and Science. What else 🤷🏻‍♀️ Good advocacy needs good data ! @embl @TaraOcean_

Mako shark or blue shark? Makos are stockier, with a pointed snout, and can reach up to 12 feet. They have a distinct blue-gray coloration on their backs. Blue sharks are slender, with a long, pointed snout, and are vibrant blue on top. Can you tell which is which?

@JeremyBRoberts Salmon shark on the left, white shark on the right. Lamnids are some of the most amazing sharks, due to their highly evolved physiology. Porbeagles (same genus as salmon sharks) are the salmon shark cousin in the Atlantic

Great white shark or salmon shark? Great whites are larger, up to 20 feet, with a more rounded snout and distinct white belly. Salmon sharks are smaller, maxing at 10 feet, have a shorter, pointier snout, and dark spots on their bellies. Can you spot the difference?

A great hammerhead or a scalloped hammerhead? Look at the head and dorsal fin: the great hammerhead has a straight, T-shaped head and a tall, curved first dorsal fin, while the scalloped hammerhead has a curved head with a central notch and a smaller dorsal fin. Which is which?
