Erasmus MC and EMBL reveal the molecular mechanisms by which avian influenza evolves from a mild to a highly pathogenic strain. This occurs when the polymerase makes an error while copying the viral RNA into host cells, adding extra fragments.

EMBL hosted a visit from the Paul Scherrer Institute’s Life Sciences Department on 3-4 March. Lead scientists met to discuss their ongoing research and explore new collaborations in AI in life sciences, imaging and structural biology, and data analysis and management.
