@BradfemlyWalsh It will affect every single adult in the country with their current plans. All of us will have to verify via digital ID or passport just to access the internet let alone social media sites. That is how they want to bypass VPN's. It will be the most intrusive country on the planet

The thing is, the ban doesn't affect adults. So why are adults getting so angry about children being banned from something that any half-decent adult knows is bad for them? Every single adult getting mad about this on Twitter is proof that they themselves aren't affected by it!

I am going to say this bluntly You are a FAILURE as parents if you can't keep you child off social media yourself YOU bought them the phone YOU can confiscate it during homework YOU are the parent, NOT Keir Starmer Authoritarian ban for your "convenience" is not the answer

There's a post circulating on here of a Member of Parliament discussing the social media ban with their tearful 6 year-old child. Given the nature of this forum I simply cannot understand why any politician would want to feature a young member of their family in this way.

Some tricky conversations this evening about the impending social media ban. ‘I don’t even know who this government guy is’ ‘Keir Starmer’ ‘Keir Starmer, what does that mean’

I am all for protecting our children but using legislation to usurp parents decision making is most certainly not the way. Trust parents to make the right decisions for their families rather than criminalising them.

Everyone will need to verify using passport, Digital ID, credit card etc. Words that should petrify every single person in the UK. Freedoms hard fought for gone under the guise of online safety cheered on by the entire establishment.

You say it’s about protecting children but keeping adults free. So how do you check a child’s age without checking mine?
Kemi Badenoch@KemiBadenoch

It is fantastic news that the Government has finally woken up to the dangers of social media for young people. This is an important step in helping parents protect childhood for children. Huge credit goes to @LauraTrottMP and my Shadow Cabinet for relentlessly fighting for this. Conservatives welcome this latest Labour U-turn, and will continue to work for the best implementation of the policy.

@NigelGJ @JessBrownFuller Is this a Lib Dem policy? Or is it rather the fact you thought they were a Labour MP, and rather than admit your mistake, continue to double down?

@NigelGJ @JessBrownFuller Banning social media for children would be my stated position too, doesn't make it my policy, does it

Why does it bother you? He started that business by taking a massive risk. Nobody thought it would succeed. Started in a borrowed office with no furniture. It has now literally changed the world bringing connectivity to the poorest parts of the globe that had been ignored by everyone else. This IPO has made millionaires to thousands of his employees. It has contributed billions in tax revenues. And the millionaires status albeit only on paper will allow him to invest in countless new projects that will employ millions around the world. This petty jealousy from some media commentators and grifting politicians needs to be ignored.

Musk as a trillionaire- anyone as a trillionaire- is a grotesque economic, moral and political problem. We cannot have individuals with that level of power, whatever they might have achieved.
