I am shocked, puzzled and a little bit amused by the extraordinary vehemence that some Catholics on X are displaying in their opposition to women’s ordination. Methinks they protest too much and are actually quite insecure in their beliefs. Pastoral help needed for them?

Tim Stanley wisely says that the attempt of a lone individual to kill Trump is not morally equivalent to Trump’s killing of the Iranian leaders. Yet with equal wisdom he feels a twinge of unease in saying this. That is very much to the point. Trump tends to assassinate himself.

@PDevous Very silly. What is needed is for Trump somehow to be legitimately displaced. There are other sinister people in his admin but I doubt (bar Hegseth) any so dangerously deranged and unpredictable. Iran is achieving the exact opposite of what the US and the rest of us would like.

Yes. My position is that reporters shouldn’t get dressed up in a tux to have some laughs with the terrible president. I also oppose trying to shoot the president (or anyone). These opinions coexist very easily if you don’t have a baby brain.

The Pope doesn’t have a “personal magisterium.” These guys just make things up. I do, however, remember many SJ’s rejecting the magisterium of the Church on numerous matters when Pope’s named John Paul & Benedict emphasized them.
