I cannot overstate how huge a departure this is. The government is saying it knows better than private firms operating in competitive markets how those firms should respond to economic shocks. It's absolutely extraordinary & I know of no economic rationale supporting it.

This document says "Price gouging is when a company puts prices up to an unfair and unjustifiably high level during a crisis." Who says "price gouging" means that & according to what economic theory is that conduct harmful to public welfare?

With all love and respect, there has been no investment in us beyond the provision of one (1) stipendiary priest for two churches (me). Slowly we’ve played with ideas and services and continue to do so, and slowly we have raised the funds to provide an assistant priest ourselves. The diocese has shown no particular interest in what we do, neither has the national church (beyond some questions about why young adults have started coming to us). I don’t think (a) we can say that one growing church engaging hard with fairly dormant strands of Anglican identity proves a learnt lesson one way or another or (b) that investment has played any part in it. Have I got theories? Yes. Have they been explored anywhere beyond my own dining room? Not to my knowledge. Do I think this is a model for other churches? Only in the basic “lean into your strengths” kindof way not a “try to be St Bart’s” kindof way. I’m not sure if that helps the conversation or not, but I’m also not sure your framing was just.

Two very different city centre Anglican churches, both expanding their Sunday service provision in the coming weeks. We've learnt how urban churches can thrive. Please can we now invest in the renewal of smaller churches, and multi-parish benefices?

In London on a Sunday afternoon? In need of Holy Communion? Look no further… a brand new service, in the old High Church tradition, is starting this Sunday. Special points if you’re a member of the @prayerbook_soc!

@fugitiveink @TheFactCompiler This is where I have to admit that I was searching for a post that I saw the other day which had an article on this and couldn’t find it - but did find this pic instead, which I nicked!

At the Tomb of the Venerable Bede. What better prayer to use than this week’s Collect, that for the Sunday after the Ascension, crafted out of the prayer used by Bede on his deathbed!

@Bartlebeans Well, I went to my brother’s graduation there about a million years ago and slept through most of the event because he’d taken me to a club called Klute.

Irish Republic challenged over its refusal to co‑operate with truth recovery and its ongoing case against the UK in Strasbourg. For decades, terrorists found safe haven in the Republic. Yet no accountability there. Why the silence?

This really is a fascinating illustration of a High Church theology of Communion.

Delightfully found one of my key texts - A Rational Illustration of the Book of Common Prayer - in the Durham Cathedral Library just now.

@WalkerMarcus what’s the English parish (Crimean Memorial Church?) like there? It looks beautiful but is it *sound* and worth our time on a Sunday morning?
