Bar Council of India has recommended Rs 20000 as minimum stipend for junior lawyers in urban areas and Rs 15000 in rural areas. Under the Delhi Minimum Wages Notification a matriculate but non graduate has a statutory minimum wage of Rs 20357 and a graduate Rs 22146!

This piece also fails to acknowledge the role of caste and intergenerational privilege of upper caste Indian immigrants - you don't "come with nothing" - intergenerational university education and cultural capital carry you through.
