Between November 3 - 28, 2025 #CARTA cohort 11 fellows will be engaged in the Joint Advanced Seminar (JAS-2) of the CARTA PhD training, hosted by @WitsUniversity, South Africa. The four-week training marks a key milestone in the fellows' doctoral journey to sharpen their research focus and finalize their study protocols before heading to the field. Through interactive sessions and hands-on facilitation, fellows are gaining practical skills in research design, data management and analysis, using both qualitative and quantitative software tools. Fellows are also taking part in methodology clinics for one-on-one mentorship, journal club sessions to build critical thinking, and a field visit that offers first-hand experience in research ethics and community engagement. Currently, #Cohort11 is participating in Joint Advanced Seminar 1 (JAS1), hosted by @MakSPH, from March 3 – 21, 2025. The intensive three-week program enhances critical thinking, strengthens technical skills, and builds essential research competencies, laying a strong foundation for the fellows’ PhD journeys. At the official opening, @RhodaWanyenze, Dean of @MakSPH, encouraged participants to embrace the journey ahead with resilience and confidence, stating: "We must be strong and master the strength to speak up for things that matter to us.
