Despite growing efforts, critical evidence gaps continue to limit the effectiveness of responses to child marriage and sexual violence in West and Central Africa. The APHRC team is participating in the ongoing WCA Evidence Workshop where leading researchers and institutions have come together to answer a fundamental question: What evidence is still missing, and why does it matter for action? The workshop sessions will explore: ✅ Policy and programmatic responses to child marriage and sexual violence in ✅ Promising exchanges and emerging innovation on child marriage and sexual violence ✅ Priority research needs on child marriage and sexual violence 🔗 Register and join us online: us02web.zoom.us/meeting/regist… #WeAreAfrica @UAPS_UEPA @UNFPA_WCARO @CKyobutungi @RatemoJuliet @lamechmutava @dia_diama @CheikhounaDia12 @santegouv_sn @DSMESENEGAL @ISSPBF @MinFamilleSN @joofassane @amveyange @DMdiarafa @OoasWaho @MalickS97 @SyllaElHadjiMa1 @deekagwii @williamsila @DorcasOdhiambo @MangwanaVJ @deborahndlovu @ndonyesarah

Today, we officially launch Innovations for Cardiometabolic Disease Care in Humanitarian Settings, a collaborative effort by @aphrc and @Elrha, funded by the @novonordiskfond. This is happening in Nairobi at the Knowledge Exchange Convening on NCD Innovations in Humanitarian Settings in Africa. The convening brings together innovators, policymakers, researchers, implementers, and donors from across the continent for one shared purpose: ensuring that people living with diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease in humanitarian crises are no longer an afterthought. What does the report tell us? Across Sub-Saharan Africa, communities, patient associations, and frontline health workers are developing extraordinary solutions to keep chronic care alive during conflict and displacement: ✅ Clay pots keeping insulin cool without electricity ✅ Patient networks sustaining care when hospitals collapse ✅ Community health workers holding continuity together when everything else breaks down The innovations exist. The evidence is here. Now the work is to ensure they don't remain fragile, underfunded, and invisible. The conversations happening in this room today are part of that work. 🔗 Download the full report here: buff.ly/gBF4KQe #NCDs #HumanitarianHealth #Innovation #Diabetes #GlobalHealth @amveyange @CKyobutungi @DMdiarafa @RatemoJuliet @williamsila @MangwanaVJ @deborahndlovu @ndonyesarah @DorcasOdhiambo @FlorahKarimi @Waithaka_KE @Chris_Maero @dia_diama

Despite notable strides in strengthening sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) across East and Southern Africa (ESA), achieving the SRHR targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) remains inconsistent, with faster progress in some areas and others lagging behind. Through the Regional Access and Accountability for Increased SRHR Equity in East and Southern Africa (RAISE SRHR) program, #IamAPHRC, in collaboration with 2gether 4 SRHR (@UNFPA, @UNAIDS, @UNICEF, @WHO), and @CHAI, coordinated by the EAC and SADC secretariats, and with funding from the European Union and @Sida , is strengthening accountability for progress towards achieving sustainable development goals linked to SRHR targets and commitments. The program aims to improve the availability, quality, harmonization, and use of SRHR data, while expanding the role of civil society in monitoring progress towards SDG-linked SRHR targets in East and Southern Africa. Today, the RAISE program team met to discuss and agree on the implementation framework and identify areas for collaboration and complementarity. #WeAreAfrica #APHRCResearch #SRHR @swedeninKe @jumuiya @SADC_News @WHOAFRO @MangwanaVJ @CKyobutungi @RatemoJuliet @lamechmutava @dia_diama @amveyange @DMdiarafa @MalickS97 @SyllaElHadjiMa1 @deekagwii @williamsila @DorcasOdhiambo @deborahndlovu @ndonyesarah

Did you know that by getting vaccinated, you are protecting yourself against harmful diseases before they come into contact with you? For five decades, vaccines have done one of the greatest things in human history, keeping us alive, healthy, and able to thrive. This World Immunization Week, #IamAPHRC’s Countdown Initiative reaffirms this year’s theme, “For every generation, vaccines work,” by showcasing how vaccines have saved millions of lives over time and why we must continue to protect future generations through timely and complete immunization. #WeAreAfrica #APHRCResearch @amveyange @CKyobutungi @DMdiarafa @RatemoJuliet @williamsila @MangwanaVJ @deborahndlovu @ndonyesarah @DorcasOdhiambo @dia_diama @ChristineGer22 @Hope_shete @MuliDavis @Wekesah @CharityWaweru @isabelmutuku1 @cwkabiru

In Sudan, a patient association set up 26 diabetes clinics during active conflict. They reached 11,000 children with Type 1 diabetes. They kept insulin flowing when the health system collapsed and did this with minimal external support. Now imagine what they and others like them could do with adequate, sustained funding. This is exactly the kind of innovation that APHRC, in partnership with Elrha and supported by the Novo Nordisk Foundation, set out to find. Across Sub-Saharan Africa, we mapped innovations for cardiometabolic disease care in humanitarian settings, solutions that keep people with diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease alive during conflict, displacement, and crisis. The Sudan Childhood Diabetes Association is just one story. There are many more. Tomorrow, April 30, we officially launch the report at our Knowledge Exchange Convening on NCD Innovations in Humanitarian Settings in Africa, where innovators, policymakers, implementers and donors come together to ask: how do we move these solutions from fragile pilots to lasting impact? 🔗 Register here: buff.ly/B2VxKPh #NCDs #HumanitarianHealth #Innovation #GlobalHealth #Africa #ContinuityofCare @amveyange @CKyobutungi @DMdiarafa @RatemoJuliet @williamsila @MangwanaVJ @deborahndlovu @ndonyesarah @DorcasOdhiambo @Wekesah @CharityWaweru @cwkabiru

Building a resilient health system starts by investing in high-quality training. #IamAPHRC is proud to be part of the $9.4 million Partnership for Education of Health Professionals (PEP) initiative, dedicated to empowering Kenya’s health workforce to take the lead in preventing and managing cardiometabolic diseases. The PEP initiative was launched during the World Health Summit Regional Meeting 2026 held in Nairobi today. As part of this consortium, the Center will bring experience and leadership in the education research component to generate evidence that inspires effective teaching approaches and workforce preparedness for cardiometabolic disease prevention and management. Over the next four years, the program will support faculty development, enrich curricula, strengthen peer learning, and inspire training for thousands of students and educators across Kenya. This initiative has been funded by the @novonordiskfond whose support is instrumental in advancing health education and workforce development in Kenya. At the West Africa Health Organization (WAHO) Partners’ Forum ( April 22–23, 2026) and the 27th ECOWAS Assembly of Health Ministers in Freetown, APHRC contributed to critical regional discussions shaping the future of health systems. Through the Countdown to 2030 initiative, the Center presented new evidence on contraceptive discontinuation in West Africa, highlighting a major blind spot in family planning. Our message: Improving contraceptive continuation is not only a health issue, it is also a financing and systems efficiency priority. #WAHO #ECOWAS #Countdown2030 #APHRC #FamilyPlanning #HealthFinancing #DataForDecisionMaking @CKyobutungi @RatemoJuliet @dia_diama @CheikhounaDia12 @joofassane @amveyange @DMdiarafa @OoasWaho @deborahndlovu
