Rare Footage - Mothership Orb Releases Fleet of UFOS! I recorded this footage at my home in Long Beach on October 21, 2017. While I was in the backyard skywatching and doing some yard work, I noticed a massive object appear in the sky. It looked almost like a large portal opening overhead. Moments later, the object began releasing dozens of smaller orbs—more than 50 of them—that moved into the lower atmosphere. Interestingly, the smaller orbs were only visible through my infrared camera, which allowed me to capture what was happening. This remains the best recording I’ve ever taken, and the moment felt truly special to witness. At the time, I had just moved into the house with my now-wife, Mallory, and was learning how to settle into adult life. Experiencing something so unusual on that day made it a moment I’ll never forget. 👽💚

@perrymetzger yet one of the few things we do know about AI is that it won't reliably do what we want - AND, unlike metallurgy, we have no easy way to conduct trial-and-error to work it out empirically (given that it costs 10^7-10^9 dollars to train a big model)

Nate's claim is a severe exaggeration, but it doesn't matter. For hundreds of years, people made sophisticated structures out of iron and steel and other metals without a detailed understanding why the things they built worked. They learned about the properties of metals, alloys, various heat treatment processes, and the like empirically, but that was sufficient. Only in the later 20th century did metallurgy finally have theory based on the underlying properties of the atoms involved. For most of the history of successful metallurgy, no one even knew what atoms were, but that was fine; empirical understanding was enough. Engineering does not depend on detailed knowledge of the underlying reason a system behaves as it does; it is sufficient, for good engineering, to know that something will reliably do what you want.

@jmasseypoet There are so many reasons that a conservative could cite for voting Trump - I might argue against them, but they are longstanding conservative positions and they aren't absurd on their face. The idea that Trump was ever "anti-war" in a meaningful way is... not one of them.

Friends (former friends) and family members questioned me when I publicly said I support Trump. One of the reasons I always gave was that he won't drag our country into war. I don't blame anyone for feeling betrayed and disgusted. Don't let anyone gaslight you. We were lied to.

@jmasseypoet I hate that we are at war but I don’t blame Pres Trump for it. He still is not a lover of war. He sincerely viewed/views Iran as a serious threat to the West & has said so for decades now. I suspect this war will be over by summer with no ground troops involved. Keep the faith.
