I submit to JP2's teaching on women priests. Do I have empathy for those who question the teaching? Empathy is a concept you don't understand, perhaps?

In the years before WWII, France was highly polarized along partisan lines. This caused many people to lose moral clarity. Their defensive, combative mindset led them to betrayal of their country, their neighbors, and themselves. I tell a bit of the story here:

It could be that the ICE at airports thing has some devious logic behind it but it also seems highly possible to me that Trump has absolutely no idea what’s going on and hears that TSA isn’t working and it’s the Democrats’ fault so he sends ICE because they’re his guys.

@gareth_gore @ParisMatch The Pope is a native English speaker who clearly reads and takes an interest in books relevant to his work. We also know he reads Catholic outlets not NCR etc. This is not difficult to understand.

Opus Dei has already begun briefing against Pope Leo, with one senior official telling @ParisMatch that my meeting with him only happened because I "must have high-ranking friends at the Vatican" - clearly implying that he was tricked into it.
They can't believe that Pope Leo might have invited me in because he wants to hear the truth. They can't believe that this was a personal intiative made made by him and him alone. For the record, I don't have any "friends" at the Vatican.
Shameful.

This week, @GovKathyHochul announced the MTA is officially seeking proposals for up to 2,390 new subway cars.
This would be the largest subway car contract in history—made possible in part by funding from the congestion relief program.
Congestion pricing = better subways.

Great, but also a reminder that the region isn't getting enough ROI from its rail network. A bus every 30 seconds wouldn't be needed with robust rail service and infrastructure on the NJ side.

@DamonLinker It’s a both-and as it also tracks with broader secularizing trends that have deeply impacted mainline churches some disaffected Catholics join (and in some cases are keeping on life support). Religiosity in general more conservative-coded than it used to be.

I assume largely because more liberal Catholics have left the church, with the remaining members more conservative. Less about a static body of parishioners moving right over time.

In 2008, the Catholic vote was evenly split: 50% for McCain 50% for Obama In 2024, it was solidly red: 56% for Trump 42% for Harris White Catholics are a 2:1 Republican voting bloc now. Non-white Catholics went from 24% for Trump in 2016 to 40% in 2024.
