At the highest level Chelsea would never be a successful 4-2-3-1 side with a midfield trio of Palmer, Enzo & Caicedo I know it looks good on paper but there's too many issues OOP as to why Rosenior has barely reverted to that setup that Maresca preferred during his time The 4-3-3 with Palmer RW, Enzo LCM, Caicedo RCM + a sitting DM with the ability to screen is the optimal solution The battle for that holding midfield role is between Santos & Lavia but if they prove unable to play that role to a high level, then Chelsea needs to be in the market for Amadou Onana as he ticks all the boxes required while providing the athleticism and physicality we lack centrally. Andrey Santos against low blocks sides ✅ Lavia against high pressing sides ✅

@RodinSimi He had as good a game as I’ve seen him have against villa, he was receiving from deep, giving pre assists from CM and giving assists as an AM. Complete B2B stuff

I want to see Enzo Fernández in a deeper role like he operated against Aston Villa. He's so good when playing from deep & supplying those passes to attackers. Maresca never played him in that position & I am loving what Rosenior is doing with him. Anyone else who noticed this?

If you pay attention to a lot of players I’ve mention, it’s to add the little details and intangibles we lack that turn this team into a European juggernaut: — Ndiaye (ball-retention to help us sustain final-third pressure like City/PSG. Our Kvara to PSG signing). — Baleba (Cheat-code PnP needed in the PL these days) — Woltemade (score more “easy” goals from crosses, which is such an underutilised source for us. Turn dominant 1-0’s to 3/4-0’s). — Maguire (CCB backline leader + set-piece monster offensively/defensively) We are very close, but we’re just missing specific fine margins + traits in the squad to reflect our true level. I don’t mention these players because they’re my “favourites” or the “best” necessarily. It’s all very specific to our squad context. These details are the difference between where we are now and being in “Best in Europe” conversations (which is very possible next season).
