I was proud to stand with students from universities across PA calling for an end to the archaic closed primary system. Research shows that 61% of 18-24 year olds do not identify with either major political party, and are excluded from a critical part of the electoral process.

@RepJaredSolomon explains only 10-20% registered voters participate in PA primaries. If independents are included, participation can go up 15 to 20%. @RepConklin says he's supported #openprimaries for 18 years. HB 979 passes 14-11.

More than 50 students from 16 colleges and universities across the state were in Harrisburg to repeal closed primary elections. Pennsylvania is one of only seven states to completely exclude independent voters from voting in primary elections. (1/4)
