Here’s the Weekly Wrap from Washington DC!

Had a wonderful meeting with Dr. Wallace J. Bellamy, President of the National Dental Association to discuss the need for establishing national baseline standards for dental insurance to bring greater transparency for patients and providers.

Last June, Freddie, a CBP rescue dog, was attacked by a non-citizen traveler from Egypt, suffering bruised ribs and forced off duty. That’s not just cruelty, it’s unacceptable. That’s why I voted for the BOWOW Act: any non-citizen who is convicted of harming a federal law enforcement animal should be deported and barred from entering the United States. We stand with Freddie, and every K-9 that protects our country.

It was a pleasure meeting with Slovak Ambassador Andrej Droba to discuss the Slovak community in Iowa and explore opportunities for stronger cooperation between our nations. We also talked about the amazing National Czech & Slovak Museum and Library in Cedar Rapids and what a fun and engaging place it is for families to enjoy!

During National Agriculture Week, we recognize the farmers who keep Iowa strong and our economy moving. Buying land, expanding a farm, and passing it on to your kids and grandkids isn’t easy, that’s why I fought for the Working Families Tax Cuts to permanently expand the Death Tax exemption, lower borrowing costs, and drive rural investment. I’ll always stand with Iowa’s family farms and fight to keep them strong.

I just voted for a Constitutional Amendment that would mandate a balanced federal budget and restore fiscal responsibility. Washington needs to be more like Iowa, where we balance our budget and ensure the government isn’t spending money it doesn’t have. 207 Democrats voted against it. For decades, Washington has spent beyond its means with no accountability, leaving future generations buried under a growing mountain of debt. I’m fighting to put a permanent check on Washington’s spending addiction, protect taxpayers, and secure a stronger future for the next generation. 🇺🇸

Imagine opposing a Women’s History Museum because it highlights… women.

As a physician and former Director of Public Health, I have seen firsthand how the provider landscape directly impacts patient care, not just in term of quality, but also in affordability and access. Avoiding annual cuts in reimbursement, along with implementing inflation-adjusted payments, provides stability that supports quality, affordability, and access, especially in rural Iowa and across America. We need real payment reform to protect the physicians who keep care local for the families who rely on them.

83% of Americans support requiring photo ID to vote. The House passed the SAVE Act to get it done. It’s time for Senate Democrats to stop stalling and pass it!

Family farms should be passed down to your kids and grandkids, not the IRS. That’s why I supported the Working Families Tax Cuts, which delivered permanent relief from the 'Death Tax' and helps protect family farms for future generations. I’ll always stand with Iowa’s family farms.

It was a pleasure meeting with Iowa postmasters to discuss how we can better support postal workers and strengthen USPS service across our state. We also talked about improving retirement benefits for the dedicated men and women who keep our communities connected every day.

The DHS shutdown is entirely of Democrats’ making. The House has passed a bipartisan funding bill TWICE, but Senate Democrats keep blocking it, blocking funding for TSA, Air Traffic Control, FEMA, and the Coast Guard, putting our national security at risk. Enough political theater. Fund DHS.

Praying for Susie Wiles as she begins treatment and wishing her strength and a full recovery. Her story is also an important reminder: early detection saves lives. I encourage women everywhere to stay up to date on breast cancer screenings and talk with their doctor about when to get screened.

Hardworking Iowans like Stacey Ollar in Bettendorf know how important tips are to making ends meet. Thanks to the Working Families Tax Cuts, Stacey and thousands of other service workers in Iowa can now deduct up to $25,000 in tips, putting more of their hard-earned money back in their pockets.

Stopped by Controlled Chaos Arms to meet the Baxter Shooting Sports team during their fundraiser supporting their middle and high school action & trap shooting program. Athletes and coaches were cleaning firearms for the community to raise money for their club and their future range in Jasper County. Impressive group of hardworking young Iowans!
